Amir Khan grew up alright. His dad owns a scrapyard here, which made him good money, so they were never poor or anything.

"Nelson is the ultimate boxing hero: born in a temporary shanty town on the outskirts of Accra, Samuel Nelson Azumah is one of seven children. As a small child he chased cars trying to sell anything and admits he often stole to feed his brothers and sisters"

Floyd Mayweather probably had a working class esq upbringing, not that much tougher then Carl the Slobra. There are bad places here, but even most of the ghettoes are nowhere near what you'd see in Detroit or Flint who were hit much harder economically then Grand Rapids.

However the school he went to Ottawa Hills is ghetto as ****. Remember playing football at their field once and it was like playing on top of a garbage dump, I think they had tires marking the endzone. And then when we left a bunch of hood cats threatened to whoop our asses.

I can't really think of any that haven't been said yet, actually. Weird.

"Haye has been portrayed as a product of the mean streets of Bermondsey. Indeed, in the aftermath of conquering Nikolai Valuev, he spoke forcefully about the virtues of living clean, healthily and working hard in order to escape those streets.

But a day spent retracing the haunts of Haye’s youth reveals a different picture. The mean streets of Bermondsey exist, but not within reach of the Haye family home among the town houses of the Peabody Estate and the wisteria, tended lovingly by his mum Jane, which decorated its windows.

The back of the Tate Modern Gallery can be glimpsed from one edge of the small estate, while another South Bank tourist attraction, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, is just around the corner.

Haye’s school, meanwhile, was the highly reputed Bacon’s College in Rotherhithe, the best school in the area."

Sure, just Googled it myself. I'd only heard that he was from the mean streets as well.

I think Dirrell grew up in a decent area. Might be wrong on that one.
