Dirrell grew up in Flint Michigan. One of the poorest most dangerous places in America. I thought you were making a joke.

I don't know if Youngstown is rough, but it is definitely a dying city. Kelly and Dirrell, being from Flint, both grew up in cities with little in the way of economic opportunity.

Mayweather, the Klitschkos, Haye, and Barrera all come to mind when it comes to fighters who grew up in relatively well to do families. Ali also comes to mind.

They try to say he came up in a gang culture and spent his life involved with gangs. However, he is from Woodland, CA....a town I am very familiar with. And yes, there are several jackasses from that ***** ass town that call themselves "gangsters". Unfortunately, they are not. The gangsters in Northern Cali are not from towns like Woodland, they are from Sacramento, Richmond, Oakland, San Francisco, etc. Vicente Escobedo is from a nice suburban town that has no clue what a ghetto even is.

He probably had a decent upbringing. But the area he grew up in is basically devoid of any economy whatsoever. Michael Moore(bowling for columbine, fahrenheit 9.11) did a documentary on the economic situation in Flint, its called "Roger and Me" you should check it out.

I've never been to Michigan, but I know for a fact that Flint is one of the roughest cities in America. **** whatever they showed on 360, the statistics speak for themselves (I think the fact that it is the **** capital is due to the laws being more strict there, just my opinion). But you can tell Dirrell has a strong family life and is a very admirable family man.

When most people think of a rough area they think of burnt out high rises, crack heads on every corner, visibly poverty.

Flint is merely a wasteland, there's nothing there. Dirrell childhood house is even gone.

You're not wrong at all. It is a very rough, poor, hard working town. The town is also 44% black.
