Lennox Lewis grew up in Kitchener, Ontario. If you have ever been to Kitchener you would know that the roughest part of town is still perfectly livable. That being said, I don't think he grew up in the rough part of Kitchener either.

Same goes for all the other fighters raised in this part of Canada... So Syd Vanderpool, Fitz Vanderpool and Chris Johnson. I don't think Molitor had a rough upbringing either...

sugar ray leonard moved from an apartment in wilmington, NC, a nice college city type of place, to the suburbs of DC.

I work in the area myself... Did you ever know a guy by the name of Tony Hubercheck? He is a guy I work with; he also went to school with Lennox. Said Lennox was a bit of a bully back in the day (which doesn't really surprise me).

Dude, Grand Rapids is not a horrible city by any stretch. A couple bad neiborhoods maybe but most cities with the same population are like that. Nothing compared to Flint, Detroit, Saginaw, or Inkster.

Tor Hamer. Dad's a professor at Columbia and a member of the New York City School Board.

Pretty much any Japanese fighter from the last 30 or so years.

Timothy Bradley grew up in Palm Springs. Supposedly the bad part of Palm Springs, but even the bad part ain't that bad.

"Boxers that didn't grow up in a rough area"

Hm...well, I think it's safe to say that many, many, MANY more boxers grew up poor than didn't.

It all depends on what you classify as rough. Pacquiauo, Clottey, Ouma, Miranda, are on a whole different level of "rough" conditions if you want to compare them to American fighters who come from rough cities or bad neighborhoods.

I actually live in the same area that Bernard Hopkins is from, this is what it looks like (Although a tough neighborhood.....I can assure you the Ghana or the Philiappines is waaaaaaaaaay worse).
