Yeah, there was more pride than objectivity working in some of those matchups that never shoud have happened with Marvis.
I actually think that fight wasnt too bad. Compared to the holmes fight, ali did much much better. The round where Ali started to dance was pretty awesome. He completely shut down berbick for a round. it makes me think how bad a prime 66' Ali would do against berbick. He would kill him. But seriously, for a 39 year old man with parkensions syndrome, he did a fine job.
Too true. Joe was n't thinking straight in the sense that he thought Marvis was a lott better than he actually was. Joe once said that as Marvis beat people like Tim Witherspoon in the amateurs,he tought that Marvis would beat those of a siimilar class in the pros, which is lunacy.
I'm not sure what was incredible about Pryor going out a winner given the quality of opposition he'd been fighting, regardless of drugs etc. Pryor was thought to be peaked when he beat Arguello x 2 and the sky was thought to be the limit. There were rumours of the drugs but many thought his big moments were still to come. It's a crying shame he went off the rails with a couple of huge opportunities ahead. Excellent post tho, you always tell fascinating stories that many are not aware of.
Larry Holmes-Muhammad Ali Trevor Berbick-Greg Page Kevin Howard-Bobby Joe Young Ted Sanders-Alex Ramos Definitely Jim Watt-Howard Davis Jr.
Roberto Duran vs Davey Moore I realize Moore was belt holder but there was no way he was in Duran's league. And that referee who allowed that to continue the way it did should have been prosecuted. in 1975 or '76,George Foreman fought six different fighters on the same day at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto...A total Joke!!! Randall "Tex" Cobb vs Larry Holmes...'nuff said...
Bowe-Dokes. A great title defense if there ever was one. Dokes was wobbly during the anthem. I'm not sure if he was high or just hadn't had his head put back on right after Ruddock knocked it clean off.
