The same "garbage" Kimbo Slice who actually won a fight in UFC against a fighter who has beaten a few UFC names? Yes.

Look man I respect MMA. I have done BJJ. However you guys get on my nerves acting like MMA is just so deep and complicated.

Who are the top fighters? Strikers. What are boxers? What level are MMA "strikers" on compared to even a washed up boxer in the striking department? Please respond.

(That stupid statement about Kimbo, a man who has been nothing but humble and eager to learn MMA, is exactly what made me hate you racist MMA boy's club punks who just HOPE that nobody can transition to the sport because the main reason you clowns are there is because you didn't have the hand eye coordination and speed to punch. All the crap you talked about Kimbo and to this day his UF is the most watched in the HISTORY of the show. Does he claim to be the star? No. Still, he is quiet, humble, and a student of your game. This is the thanks you punks give.)

Kimbo is a mediocre fighter. He fought Houston Alexander, barely won a boring fight, and Houston Alexander is also a mediocre fighter. The only "name" he's beaten is Jardine, who is a flailing, ridiculous spazz who has been on a losing tear himself. Losing to Kimbo, particularly before he was even a TUF alumni, is embarrassing. Ray Mercer got embarrassed. Old ass boxers don't need to be in the MMA game.

It's also silly to say that the best MMA guys are strikers. The best MMA guys are well rounded. GSP wins based on the strength of his wrestling. Anderson is a striker, but he relies on his BJJ to get him by when he fights wrestlers. Lesnar is a wrestler, period. Penn is the closest thing you'll come to a pure striker, but he's also a BJJ black belt and has excellent wrestling defense which is hugely important if you want to be a striker in MMA.

That aside, MMA striking is so fundamentally different than boxing due to the inclusion of elbows, knees and kicks, the small gloves, the need to be prepared to defend takedowns as well as strikes, that it's ludicrous to say that boxers are better strikers than MMA guys. Boxers are better boxers than MMA guys. That's about the extent of it.

You idiot you missed the entire point of what I said. I never meant Kimbo was a world beater. I meant he respected the sport, brought it tons of fans, and look how the sport's punks ass fans treat him? No respect. Your first paragraph is a perfect example. (Butt heads like you and the blaring aggro rock/screaming push me away from the sport.)

So silly? Why don't you rattle off a list of the dominant champions. You will rattle off a list of mostly dominant strikers. Please about Brock Lesnar. The man is a freak. If your dumb ass thinks he is getting over on mostly skill versus insane physical mismatches you don't know crap about fighting. I say that with the utmost respect for Lesnar and his skills, but come the hell on! It isn't his fault though. He is doing what he should do.

Kill that elbows, knees, blah, blah, MMA is rocket science BS! You can't use your elbows if a guy keeps you at the edge of his range. The small gloves magnify the effect of range because a jab becomes an AMAZINGLY effective punch. A kick throws you off balance and no Boxer should or would stand in front of a kicker without movement and feints. He should eat that squared up BS up. And no crap you need takedown defense. Why would a boxer even train in MMA and NOT study takedown defense. Damn I hate you MMA fanboys acting like your sport is "unlearnable". Guys pick that crap up in their 20s and become champs.

It is ludicrous because you hope in your little heart that boxers can't kick the crap out of your MMA heroes because then you would have to go out and invent/steal another sport that you could dominate. :yep

    THANK YOU!!

Who ever said that nonsense must have never seen Mercer's 9 second starching of Sylvia. I don't care how washed up, if a boxer with any decent skill punches you with those little gloves on it's gonna do serious damage.

I respect the fact that Kimbo is really trying to learn what he's doing and putting in the work I knew he'd really had to after learning he was headed to UFC.

Also, I think a skilled boxer with good dabbling in a few essential skills(mainly ground training) could do better than most think in MMA.

I was trying to stay out of it till I saw this post. This is a really a stupid post. MMA guys will never be better strikers than boxers. I have trained with both. A boxer is accurate, fast, powerfull and throw punches in combinations. Watch a boxer hit the mitts and watch an MMA guy hit the mitts.
Thats just the punching part...boxers defense
is an art. They will hit you and wont get hit. Only a handfull of guys are good defensive fighters like Silva, BJ Penn and GSP, and guess what, they take their boxing serious. In fact Anderson used to be a boxer and look how stupid he makes his oponents look.

Which bring me to what I think makes a boxer a great; his footwork. People think boxing is about throwing punches, but is more about being quick on your feet, be at the right place, hit the other guy and get out of there within seconds. Thats what makes a boxer great. I consider an MMA fighter a Jack of all trades, Master of none.
Of course if it goes to the ground then is over for Mayorga. But is they decide to stand up, and with Mayorga using those baby gloves, its going to feel like bare knucles for him. Another thing, MMA guys are not used to getting punch in the head and their speed is not in par with boxers, but Mayorga is old so who knows.
Ray Mercer is almost fifty and he lost to a twenty something year old guy whos fame is being a dangerous brawler/puncher, and even that he decided to take the old man to the ground.

Am not knocking on MMA, I enjoy practicing it, but to say that they are better strikers than boxers is really stupid, thats what boxers do, you got to start early in life to be a great boxers. I did a few months of ground work, and my coach said I was ready to get in the cage because of my boxing background. I would never dream of getting in a ring as a boxer.

I really hope Mayorga comes back to boxing after this... If hes going to continue, hell with it, i wouldnt mind seeing him even at his age have a go with cintron, or even angulo. Both are winnable fights against decent opponents.
