Before anyone gets serious, this is just a bit of fun.

Buncey posed this hypothetical scenario to Joe Cole on last night's Boxing Hour and I thought it might make a good thread as well. Feel free to post your boxing dream team; you can use your own formation as well if you like. I've thought some up quickly and I think the reasons as to why a particular fighter would be 'playing in' a certain position are obvious:

    Lewis

Calderon, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Whittaker, Juan Manuel Marquez

    Gatti (C), Holyfield, Hagler, Robinson

    Tyson, Hearns

Feel free to scrutinise and name your own teams. I've just whipped this one up quickly to get the debate going:good.

Ricky Hatton has at least kicked a soccer ball and is son of a pro, why would you put in so many Yanks?

Your defence is too lightweight also.

Liking football has nothing to do with it. Although I'm sure you're just taking the ****, I'll point out that the playing position is based on a particular fighter's stylistic attributes:good.

    I've stuck with current boxers...

GK: P Williams - Speed, height and reach.
RB: K Mitchell - Solid and delivers a good cross.
CB: W. Klitschko - No nonsense.
CB: V. Klitschko - No nonsense.
LB: J. M. Marquez - Will bomb forward like Evra.
RM: F. Mayweather Jnr. - Great crossing ability and can cut-in and shoot. On free-kicks and corners.
CM: M. Cotto - Industry and technique.
CM: C. Froch (c) - Leader, puts out fires and prepared to get dirty.
LM: L. Bute - Good left foot, will work well with an over-lapping JMM.
SS: M. Pacquiao - Rooney and Messi rolled into one.
CF: D. Haye - Good finisher, Darrent Bent like. Penalty taker.

you can't compare bent to haye in terms of being an equivelent. Bent is championship level at best, whereas haye is premier league all over. Maybe swap for Jimmy greaves, looks amazing doing what he does, but never gets his shorts dirty! :good

-GK- Lennox Lewis - Just massive

-RB- Carl Froch - Tough and gritty and tries his hand going forward and always seems to get the job done

-CB- Frank Bruno - Imagine trying to play against someone like him?

-CB- Audley Harrison (C) - Chosen as captin because the self confidence he has should rub off on the rest of the team

-LB- Frankie Gavin - Naturaly left sided

-RM- Naseem Hamed - Silky smooth, will leave defenders behind him before they knew it

-CM- Ricky Hatton (Holding) - Tough, no nonesence

-CM- Nathan Cleverly - Natural athlete, will bomb forward looking to score

-LM- Joe Calzaghe - Natural lefty, pretty quick too

-ST- David Haye - Bully defenders

-ST- Amir Khan - Beat the offside trap

Tito would be the tough battering ram in the midfield, whereas Hearns would be the skillful Will Greenwood type in tthe middle... not sure about Monzon at 10, interesting call though :think
