If Eubank landed his sneak right on an in-coming Jones Jr

Eubank jumped from super middleweight to cruiserweight in '98 bypassing the light heavyweight division to avoid Roy Jones.

He fought 2 titanic and damaging battles against Carl Thompson who stopped David Haye a few years later.

Eubank should have fought Roy Jones in '98 instead. He could have given him a decent argument.

 

The antidote for speed is timing and Eubank had that in abundance, what i dont buy is this **** RJJ chin always being glass, Eubank would give a decent argument but would lose a clear UD.

Jones was very overrated, he never fought once outside of the US until his KO loss to Danny Green, he was protected his entire career and when Tarver landed that hook on his jaw, we found out why.
Eubank was a very good fighter, good power, excellent chin, and great counter pouncher. He had all the tools necessary to beat Jones, he could take advantage of Jones' tendancy to leap in and swing wildly.

Toney was also a good fighter, good power, excellent chin and great counter puncher...

Like I said earlier, If Jones and Toney had never fought and It was just a mythical fight, you would be one of the people saying Toney had all the tools to beat Jones.

The Jones was protected his entire career argument his horrible.

And the referencing of weaknesses that were never apparent until he was in his mid thirties and made a trip back down from heavyweight are pretty unfair to Roy when used to try and suggest his career was just smoke and mirrors.

 

This sentence makes it sound like Jones was some kind of wild brawler. When you say swing wildly I think inaccurate, which Jones' accuracy was truly amazing... They may have looked like wild punches because it wasn't always text book, but he knew where every punch was going and they were very accurate.

 

It would have been goodnight Vienna if Eubank landed. Both Jones and Hopkins avoided travelling to the UK to take on Eubank,Benn and Watson. One big American supermiddleweight name did make the journey and got KO`d. Nuff said!!

 

Who's names will be remembered more as great boxers??? Hopkins and Jones? or Eubank, Benn and Watson?? "nuff" said...

Maybe they should have maned up and came to the USA, their legacies are hurt more by the decision than Hopkins or Jones.

 

Nigel Benn fought Jorge Amparo,Jose Quinones,Sanderline Williams,Doug DeWitt and Iran Barklay ALL in the US.Eubank had 5 fights in the US,1 in Portugal,1 in Germany,1 in South Africa,1 in Egypt and 1 in the United Arab Emirates. Do US fighters have passports??:hi:

 

It's not like Jones would just repeatedly widely throw telegraphed punches that Eubank could counter. I don't think Chris would have a chance in hell of catching Roy with anything. It would really be a test for Eubank to survive 12 rounds of that kind of pounding. I suppose it is possible, but I would think that Roy in his prime would slip, fall and hit his head against the corner post with concussive force before Eubank landed a blow significant enough to rattle him.

 

Did they fight Hopkins or Jones in the US??? You are criticizing Hopkins and Jones for not going over there, i am saying they should have come over here to fight them, being as how they fought lesser fighters here, it should not have been a problem.

 

Jones would fire back with punches Eubank never saw coming, will never see coming and never ever believed existed. Eubank is a top quality fighter, no doubt but there's a reason all these guys ducked him back when it mattered.

 

Whether you want to accept it or not is your problem but all the major fights take place in the US.

 

I agree with you, but as you probably know most people won't!!! I believe Eubank had the tools to beat RJJ & Toney, and remain disappointed that he never did!!!
