How is it that some boxers never get that "ripped" physique?

    I box myself, just amatuer.

    But I train hard and eat well for championships. I never get that 'ripped' just like a thin look. However even when I get abit heavier between fights I keep the same look, and actually look more 'ripped'

    Im not saying they should go out of their way to build larger muscles, Im just explaining that is why they dont look toned.

    I agree with this to an extent.

    But for someone like me for example. Im 6'2" 180lbs. Obviously Im not too thick muscular wise. I can only bench 200lbs, but i can squat 325. I have like 8% body fat ratio. I have a brick for a stomach, but still dont show a ripped six pack although Im close. My legs are thick for my size, but parts of my body like my chest are like a 15 year olds :lol:. The point of all of this is I think Muscle Maturity plays a role in your physique.

    I know decent amount of people in the fight game (mma wise & boxing wise, I've been trained by Joey Gamache Sr., and have worked with active pro Dorin Spivey he's on boxrec) and alot have talked about muscle maturity.

    I dunno if its bull****, but I believe it, cause from some nutritionists I've talked to said some peoples matobolism is ******ed fast (like mine) and will eat your muscle extremley quick if your not on an almost perfect diet for your body type. But once your metabolism slows a bit into your late 20's it will be easier for you told hold muscle. But also your metabolism/body type can cause you to lose muscle mass easily, or not show tone as well, but Your stamina will not be adversly effeced.

    But I've never really got to personally talk to the nutritionist, trainers etc that are the best in the world that constantly work guys into prizefighter shape (pacman, mosley, may, dlh etc) to see what they really think.

    Boxin' ain't bodybuilding. They get ripped (except for most of the heavies nowadays) to a certain extent but you don't see the bulk bursting out of the skin. And besides too much muscle can come to an expense of speed and agility, they will hinder the boxer's movements.

    The thing is, many boxers tend to go up and down in weight and people can only make 3kg or 6.6lbs of pure 100% muscle in a year which is not much. Jumping in weights makes (most of) the fighter more soft. That's also why people ask whether they can carry their power to a heiger weight 'cause the weight gain is not pure muscle gain...

    I use to eat whatever I wanted, run, do push-ups, and crunches, and, still was in excellent shape. When u train rigorously, the body burns everything u eat. Oh, the good ol' days.

    Ahhh you're one of those, I hate you guys :lol:. I train my guts out and im toned, you eat ramen noodles and warm up a frozen burrito for lunch go to the gym 2/3 times a week are ripped. That is the defenition of good genes right there.

    But yea people do put emphasis a little too much on taking in too much calories, yea you only burn so much in training but you have to take in the fact that the training itself cause your metabolism to jump for the rest of the day, thus causing your body to burn more calories even at rest afterwards.

    I agree his physique nowadays is terrible, but what does amaze me, is that he will still be standing at the end of 12 rounds. How the **** they do that (arreola included) I dont know, I guess conditioning from their earlier years is still there (at least enough to carry them through 12 rounders)
