...he had a better grasp of the English language? If he could speak English as well as, say, fellow Filipino Nonito Donarie? I've met Filipino people (born and raised over there) who shocked me with how well they spoke English, so it has nothing to do with the fact that Donaire spent a good chunk of his life in the States...Pacquiao just happens to not be one of the Filipinos who speak great English. I think Buboy even speaks more English than him... ...but if Pacquiao's English was 100%, how much more popular would he be?
Pac doesn't need English to be more popular. He has an exciting style that translates well into any language. What derailed his popularity a bit was him refusing to be tested.
Well, he's already insanely popular in the US. It wouldn't help him as much as if he spoke German and trained in Germany.
It wouldnt hurt him thats for sure. But Pac's popularity is based on his exciting fighting style and what he does in the ring,he doesnt need to trash talk or do some ridiculous antics outside of the ring like others do for people to tune in to his fights.
Well, if he spoke better English, I imagine that he could have sat down with someone, and gave a sensible reason for WHY he refused the tests.
I agree, it wouldn't make much difference. Whether he spoke good english or not, he's not a big talker outside of the ring. He'll always be popular for what he does inside the ring.
It depends, it may have more to do with his personality. What do Tagalog speakers around ESB infer about his personality from his native language interviews? If he's just as reserved and soft-spoken, language may not have much to do with it. It's possibly that's why Mosley's hardcore fan-base is limited.
Its better he cant speak english, or he would be forced to answer questions he doesnt want to, thats why he refers to Bob Arum and Freddie Roach more often.
Well, obviously, I don't know what the hell he is saying, but in the Tagalog interviews I've seen, Pac seems to be more engaging...I'm sorry, but his English after being asked a questions at times just makes me feel slightly embarrassed for him...
I'd say his english is pretty good already, and i dont think improving it would do much more for his popularity. His english isnt perfect but i can imagine taking years to get to an equivalent level in a foreign language. Expecting him to sharpen up his english for the sake of ignorant Americans seems like a really arrogant mindset to me.
What difference does his english make when he is in the ring, he dont speak he punches. its his fast hands and fight style makes him popular. speaking proper english aint gunna knock no one out.
