Lennox Lewis in his prime is far better than Vitali Klitschko. Yes Mendoza, I stand by that.

I agree completely and after trailing in the early part of the fight he came back and basically pounded Vitali's face to pulp, this is the mark of a champion an in shape Lewis wins this fight easy.

    Ya think?

No ****. And better than all but a few other names you could name. And head to head probably THE toughest match-up in the history of the division.

I think Riddick Bowe in his prime is on the same level as Lennox Lewis.

I could name more. Afterall, he did get iced by one punch by two B level fighters.

Why do all Klitscko fans mention the Lewis vs Vitali as a positive note? I won't go into the age and weight stuff as that is known. Why did they say Lewis was gassed, and losing on the cards without mentioning the fact that Lewis was coming back strong in the fight and having Vitali reeling and holding on in survival mode dragging Lewis half-way across the ring in a clinch because of Lewis' heavy punches. Lewis looked to be on the verge of finishing him off soon... or Vitali desperately hated getting mauled with punches on the inside that he had to hold on for deer life. Vitali is probably underrated on his survival skills. He has a great ability to survive, but his chin gets over-stated. I will admit, it's solid and he took a hellacious uppercut. But soon later he was reeling and looking tired.

Yes, Lewis plumped on his stool looking tired too (Not as tired as Vitali who decievingly looks tired with his gasped-open mouth look) but performance was showing Lewis finishing really strong in the 6th and Vitali looking very hurt. Something Klit fans don't ever seem to like to mention. Besides his face having been beating to a pulp ala Terminator style (If that's not enough), Lewis was still shifting momentum.

Go watch the fight... hell show it for all of us to see and dispel that notion wrong with video evidence.

Imo the difference is about the same as the one between Joe Louis and Ezzard Charles. But that´s just me.

While I agree with you overall I disagree with you on the "Vitali-tiring" thing. Vitali always looks tired and always fights with an open mouth. That´s just a bad habit and something that maybe will cost him against atgs.

Bowe got exposed by Golota something like 9 months after he TKOd Holyfield. Bowe was 29 years old.

Doesn't get more prime than that.

I agree, which is why I say it was deceiving. But he was looking more tired than before and after, and he was at least looking to be deteriorating. Open-mouthed or not he was still clinging on and dragging himself on Lewis from one side of the ring to the other. Actions speak louder than words.

Against ATGs he would've had his jaw broken for sure.

I've never understood this Lewis/Vitali apologetic movement. Yes, fine, Lewis was the better fighter, achieved more, came into the fight past-prime, disinterested blah blah blah but making up myths about how the momentum was mysteriously shifting in his direction or how he was much fresher and energetic is just beyond me. BOTH guys were tired, slapping at each other, BOTH guys were reeling all over the ring in clinches, BOTH guys slumped over on their stools at the end of the final round gasping for breath. If anybody looked more tired to me, it would have been LL, whose punch output was dropping rapidly and looked much less interested in the fight. Lewis is a great, and a greater fighter than Klitschko I or II, we know this. There's no need to defend his corner to the utmost tenuous detail in Lewis/Vitali to protect that. It was a close fight in which VK had a narrow lead and could have ended up either way.

One thing I'm pretty certain of is, despite the numbers, Vitali is not much of a puncher.

Which was due to Lewis punches taking it´s toll not because he was tired imo. Even at his age know he throws up to 80 punches per round and doesn´t look tired, don´t think he was against Lewis. I cheered for Vitali back then, having seen nearly all of his and only a few of Lewis and what a fight it was, watched it again a few weeks ago. After the fifth I cheered for Lewis but was sad that it got stopped albeit I think it was the right decision.
