Should Pavlik exercise his rematch clause with Martinez?

I personally don't think he should. Even though he had some decent middle rounds in this fight, he was thoroughly dominated. I think the second fight looks the same. I don't think Kelly can or will make the necessary adjustments needed to beat Martinez in a 2nd fight. Kelly has no clue how to set up a different punch than the straight right hand against a guy like Martinez, amongst other things. It's simply a terrible style for him. I like Kelly, but against a guy like Martinez, he just looks SO limited in every facet.

 

Can he still make Middleweight? He shouldn't balloon 18 pounds north in the matter of 24 hours. But besides that, really he shouldn't. He got outworked and he looked slow against Martinez. Jack Loew isn't going to help him do **** anymore and his cut man blows. Get a new corner and then maybe try again but until then don't bother.

 

Pavlik needs to exercise getting better trainers ... especially a cutman.

 

I think he should, he really has no other options. A rematch with Martinez, and he wins he is back on top. If he loses, well it doesn't matter much since he is at rock bottom at the moment.

 

If he got a new corner yes. If he still has Jack Loew he'll double jab himself into oblivion

 

Whether he should or not, he definitely will. He'll see those as 'his' titles, and he won't give up a free shot at getting them back.

The only way he won't is if he decides that now's the time to move up, but I doubt he's going to.

 

Why not!? He's got money to make in a rematch, and I'd like to see him lose one more time to SM.

 

what else is there for him? yes he looked bad, slow, clueless...but he is only 28.

 

With all due respect to those dissing his corner, Jack was actually giving Kelly good advice tonight. Problem is, Kelly just can't physically do it. Like, I don't think it was possible for him to do the things Jack was wanting. Now, can some of that be helped by a different trainer? Impossible to know at this point. It's quite evident that Kelly has no clue how to box a 'mover'. He looks completely lost in there. Kelly's lack of athleticism was so apparent in tonight's fight and againt 'Nard.

 

Age doesn't tell the whole story. Another loss to Martinez could shatter whatever confidence he had left. I just think there are less riskier options that would keep Kelly viable. Maybe not as compelling fights but he could beat Sturm, Sylvester, and maybe some guys @ 168. He just has to stay away from the 'movers' like Martinez who have a very clear speed advantage.

 

Pavlik's kind of in no-man's land right now. He struggles to make 160 and just got outhustled and outfought vs a measurably smaller, older man. At the same time, he takes too much punishment to move up to the significantly deeper 168 pound division where he wouldn't even have his size advantage. He's not really built for success moving up in weight.

I hate to say it, but things aren't looking good for Pavlik's future right now.

 

I don't think he should. He looked bad tonight and for his health and the future of his face I suggest he just retires.

no, he should move to 168 & fight crotch, kessler, & abraham. he will beat all of them, but should stay away from dirrel & ward.
