3 things Kelly Pavlik might want to think about doing following his defeat at the hands of Sergio Martinez:

    1. LEARN TO CUT OFF THE RING. The Hopkins fight was no fluke, as we saw tonight. You can't just follow guys around the ring, you have to cut the ring off so that you can land your power shots.

    2. Get a better cut man.

    3. Change trainers? (I know this is a sore spot and you've said you don't want to do this, but just a thought)

He has been exposed! There is a blueprint on how to beat him! Hopkins showed it! He is flat footed, and has a slow upperbody!

    1. Probably change trainers.
    2. Decide just how much he wants to put into boxing. If he's going to keep going, he needs to keep himself focused and working better than this.
    3. Work on basic tactics and footwork. Seriously, he didn't do anything that you're supposed to do with a southpaw, didn't lead with the right often enough, didn't keep his lead foot outside the southpaw's lead, didn't do enough to cut off the ring or bully Martinez to the ropes, etc.

He's also either going to have to take better care of his body in between bouts or consider moving up in weight, because rehydrating 18 pounds is not good at all.

Understand the weight drain problem but where can Pavlik go??? There are guys at Super Middle that are just as fast and slippery as Martinez (Bute, Dirrell) but pack a hell of harder punch. Here are my thoughts on it. Kelly should shoot 3 fights, with the goal to retire at age 30 having made a decent buck in boxing. 1) Paul Williams/Kermit Cintron winner 2) Martinez rematch 3) win or lose in his previos fights move up and fight Arthur Abraham or Carl Froch at 168. There was a lot of excitement over the possibility of an Abraham/Pavlik match a bit ago. If he can regain his title and then move up to Super Middle, I think there is a market for this one. Either way, this is respectable competition where win or lose, no one will fault him and fans would be getting value for money.

Pavlik would get killed by ward and dirrell.....Froch-Pavlik would guarantee a ****ing war.....Which I favor froch actually, because neither guy has a lot of skill, so it would come down to will....and I will take froch.....He could beat kessler though...

There's only one thing he should do: retire.

He needs to go to 168 where he'll be able to choose from a variety of opponents.

Also, I'm not sure if he has some confidence issues that need to be worked out. It seems like him and Jack are too close at times...Jack kinda anticipates Kelly getting discouraged, says something, then Kelly gets discouraged primarily BECAUSE Jack mentioned it.

Brin in new blood, i.g. a new trainer. He won´t be able to change his game much but there is still plenty of room to improve what he actually can do. He still is a good contender at mw and porbably at smw as well.

he needs to stop fighting slick fighters or he needs to learn how to be more slick himself like Hopkins told him...he needs to fight black

anyway, would love to see him fight Abraham/Kessler/Forch

Froch - Pavlik would be all time classic like Gatti-Ward IMO - Froch to take it

Abraham - Pavlik a very good matchup as both are quite predictable - Abraham by KO or Pavlik by Decision

Kessler - Pavlik - Kessler is straight line fighter and predictable but so is KP - Kessler is much bigger but if Pavlik lands it'd be interesting

Basically Kelly needs to stay away from slick fighters... so he should fight other white guys (probably your typical euro fighter - Froch/Kessler type)
