Don`t take it that serious, its another sport that i`ve shed a tear over, thats football, mainly when i`m drunk to **** though hehe.
There's a video out there with Michael Parkinson who's something like a british Charlie Rose that he did on Ali which is real sad, because you see this brash, cocky, handsome, big, strong, athletic, witty, full of life and fun guy and then you see him turn into what he is now. It's like in Cooko's nest when you see Nicholson turned into a vegetable. A lot of fighters and boxing personalities dieing would make me sad, some like Hops, Mosley, Mosley's dad (because they're so close), Floyd Sr (you might find this strange), Hatton especialy but none of them would make me cry. The only one who maybe might make me cry is Miranda.
I'm not gonna lie, I shed a few tears for Chico. But we were childhood friends and boxed together. I would never cry for a boxer that I didn't personally know, no matter how much I admired him.
Interesting...Just wondering, how deep was he into the gang/criminal life before he went into boxing? How good was he of a boxer as a teen? Did you still talk to him when he was older?
They (currently active and retired boxers alive today) are all going to die. Most probably in my lifetime. :conf
Yeah we continued to talk and hang out. He was not deep at all, not the way they made it look. I mean where we grew up, we knew bangers, but were never jumped into any gangs. I remember watching his "bio" before the Castillo rematch and saw all of the things they were saying about his past, "grew up in gangs", "life of crime", blaa blaa blaa. I called him and said, dude, you weren't no gang banger. He said the producers made it more dramatic to add the "rags to riches" perception. Really was a tragic loss, I sure miss that guy.
He was one of my favorite fighters. Definitely one of the gutsier fighters out there, not just in the ring, but in choice of opposition. Sacramento has had a lot of good fighters for a city of 400k.
I don't think I'd actually cry, but I would probably go into a minor depression if any of my favorite Boxers died.
