Edwin Valero vs a prime Aaron Pryor

Pryor was severely underrated, i don't know about that mixed-drink allegations in that Arguello fight, it will always remain a mystery but Pryor was a better boxer then Valero and a natural athlete, i'd pick Pryor by UD or late KO

I think this one is an automatic No Contest, I'm pretty certain you have to actually be vertical at the weigh-in.

 

Pryor isn't underrated at all. He gets his credit as an all-time 140 lb. fighter. The Ring ranked him way too high on their 2002 list. If anything, he's become way overrated from people who watch too much Legendary Nights. I very rarely hear people who don't say that Pryor wasn't an excellent fighter at his best.

I surely wouldn't hesitate to pick Pryor over Valero.

 

yer i get your point, by at his time he was getting no recognition whatsoever, people now can look back and say yer he was good and we should rank him higher which is the sought of thing i disagree with, although not his fault he couldn't get those mega fights a boxer talented as him, Leonard was ducking him for years!

maybe he wasn't as underrated as i say but he definately wasn't overrated

It's comments like this that causes people to "overrate" him, because people watch too much Legendary Nights.

It was partially his fault that he didn't get the big fights (with guys that weren't even in his division anyway). Leonard offered him a fight for $500,000. He declined, he wanted a million. This is from Pryor's own mouth, after he beat Lennox Blackmoore.

He was offered a fight with Roberto Duran, at 150. He had managerial issues, and by the time he cleared them out, the offer was off the table.

Keep in mind these are fighters in a weight class above him. They are not obligated to fight guys in different weight classes (hell, some guys get knocked for it), yet they still offered him fights. Pryor didn't move up and make a name at the higher divisions, but he still got offers anyway.

Pryor's own personal problems were also to blame for him not getting a unification bout @ 140 with Saoul Mamby. He was shot by his wife in an argument.

When The Ring ranks him 30 spots above Thomas Hearns, then that is being extremely overrated.

Pryor WAS a terrific fighter, however, and would be a handful for pretty much anyone @ 140.

 

Nobody at 140 could have beaten Pryor in his prime, he had everything lol.

JCC would TKO Pryor at 140 without a doubt

 

I think anyone with a little bit of skill could have easily beaten Valero. He was so damn rugged in there. Aside from his punching power, I don't think he brought much to the table.

 

Pryor vs. Chavez @ either 135 or 140 would have been an awesome fight.

 

If he shoots him in the parking as revenge for the brutal KO Valero lays on that overrated POS.

 

Pryor was a crude windmiller who got knocked on his ass in almost every fight. He would never have survived Arguello without the black bottle, and without that fight nobody would be talking about him. There are a dozen guys at 140 who would stop him (without medication). At least.

 

Sweet Pea beats him. Personally I think Pryor is overrated here, His best win is over a past prime Arguello fighting above his best weight class. Even that win in itself is disputed based on what was in that bottle.
