I lean towards Marciano but I'm not overly confident about it. Holmes would give Rock nightmares for the majority of the fight that's for sure but unless he got stopped on cuts or something Rock would be advancing until the final bell....I know it's a bad barometer but when Tyson fought Holmes we got a glimpse of how Larry would have handled a balls-out slugger. There's obvious flaws in that comparison in that Tyson was bigger and stronger than the Rock but was he a better puncher :huh Also of course Larry was well past prime by this point.

Marciano would get seriously outclassed by the '77-'80 version of Holmes. Larry's jab and uppercut would seal Marciano's fate. He was simply too long and too good for Marciano to have any chance.

 

Yes Rocky would get very low...and get f'ing decapitated by Holmes' uppercut everytime he did.

All I have to say is Holmes better bring that left hand right back to his cheek after jabbing. That overhand right will be coming!

 

I lean very slightly towards Marciano getting his ass thoroughly kicked and kissing the canvas for the last time around the 7th.

Larry Holmes would keep Rocky Marciano away with his jab. Win by impresive decision or late round stopage. Marciano would just get hit too much and not be able to hit back so much that almost any ref would stop the fight even if no real damage was done.

 

The two fighters I think would give Rocky the most trouble in HW history are prime Ali and Holmes. Even more so than some of the later super heavies. I don't think prime Holmes or Ali gets stopped no matter how much leather Marciano lays on them and due the styles, I don't think he lays that much leather on either in their primes anyway. I see cuts all over the place. A mess for Rocky. Does that mean I think it's impossible Marciano wins? No. But if he did he'd be at the very end of his own rope, fighting the greatest fight he could possibly have in him.

Edit: ...Okay, the most trouble I can see would be prime Foreman, because it would be a massacre. But aside from that, Ali and Holmes...Who cares? I'll have a different answer tomorrow. I flip flop. Sue me. Blah, blah, blah, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

 

Holmes didn't hit like Tyson, but that's because his style was different and used less leverage in his boxing style. But trust me his 1-2 with that right is about as mean as 1 punch power as you can get. That man was quick and was undefeated for as long as Rocky for a reason.

holmes wins. has a size and weight advantage. is the superior fighter. better ring-generalship. fantastic jab. and don't forget there are few heavyweights who could take a punch like larry could
