Why I honestly have gained more respect for Pavlik since his humiliating defeat...

First of all, as all of you know, I am the furthest thing in the world from a Youngstown Pavhead. So I am being esincere when I say this:

#1 - Unlike some people, I actually think very highly of Sergio Martinez. Pav didn't lose to a B+ fighter. He lost to a guy who is athletic, crafty, lightning-quick, resilient, tough, and who has pretty decent power. Sergio is a world champion who can ****in fight his ass off. There really is no shame in that.

#2 - Pavlik was basically thrown out to the wolves. No other way of getting around it. He has to have the worst trainer and manager in the business, and on top of that, had the worst cutman I have ever seen in action. Yet, despite wanting to quit, he came out of his corner again and again to take his ass-whippin like a man.

#3 - He didn't seem to make any excuses aftwerwards. And he seems to be a lot better sport about it than even the people around him.

I am still not a fan, but I am done shitting all over him like I have done in the past, because even as limited as he is, I think he can get back on top if he straightens out his camp and gets his head together.

    YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAW!!!:good

Why do fighter's need to lose for them to gain your respect?

    First Cotto and now Pavlik.

what's a new trainer going to teach him? is he going to teach him to move his head? is he going to teach him to not be flat footed? is he going to teach him to be better defensively?

the chances are pavlik would do well against come forward fighters that are there to be hit, and lose to fighters who use movement, and no trainer in the world now is going to change that. to be honest for a fighter as limited as he is, you could say his team did well to get him where he's actually at, because he's not that good.

    :huh Good question.

I've thought about that before. Maybe it's because I see the qualities of a person better in defeat than when they are riding high.

Or maybe because I'm a loser and I can identify with them better now.:nut

seems to be the phase that's increasing in boxing. hate the one who avoid punches, support the ones that take punches.

he needs to fire his team...and not just get a new cutman.

he needs people to make him new...strength training over and over again is worthless.
it was almost like he had a deaf dumb and blind buddy mcgirt in his corner....
never even a shred of advice. just go out there....bleeding and deal with it... punch him.
    punch him and end this.

people at home could scream at him what to do.... but his corner was ...uhhhhhhh uhhhh
    **** that....fire them.

mosley had the balls to say "thanks dad...thanks for getting me here...but i need someone to add on to me...sorry pop"

As losing performances go, I thought Pavlik's was a pretty good one.

    Why do fighters fall?
So they can learn how to pick themselves up...
Everything is rainbow and sunshine till they hit the deck. The courage they display when they come back and learn from their mistakes is a thing to admire. Live to fight another day :good

Aren't you in FL??? I think one of your less-astute clients should be able to get you anything you need.:hey

I know this **** has got to be rough for you. I know how I felt after that Quintana loss. It was like that sinking feeling right in the gut. We were all in the hotel afterwards rewatching the fight, and Paul seemed to take it better than everyone else in the room. I didn't really feel like partying and **** afterwards, so I went to one of the bars in the casino, had a couple of drinks, and called it a night.:verysad

**** sucked. I wasn't on ESB back then, but had I been, I don't know what I would have said.

Exactly. Kelly seems to be at the lowest point in his career ever. This has to be worse than the Hopkins loss, because it was more brutal, at his true weight, and for his belts. Damn. You gotta feel for the guy a little bit, even if you aren't really a fan.

He could have whined like a *****, broken down into tears, or said some outrageous hateful **** like some people have done in the past. But he took it in stride like a man.

When a fighter is on top of the world, with a hypetrain, a blind following, and all the confidence in the world, it's a lot easier to be gracious and say all the right things. But when the going gets tough, that person's true character comes out.

He gained more respect because he fought tough in the middle rounds and even though Sergio changed his pattern and caught him and sliced him open he didn't make excuses about his weight and said he wanted to rematch(granted what was he supposed to say, but I liked him saying it without hesitance).
