So you're basically saying, don't be fooled by the puncher's angle, Thiam's best days are long, long gone?

It would be a testament to Roach's ability as a trainer if he could turn Chavez Jr into a boxer rather than a brawler...... particularly as he seems to be training almost every fighter in the US these days!

You can bring a horse to water but you cant make him drink

If Duddy wants it to be a firefight Chavez will oblige

Am I the only one seriously pissed off at the fact that Lee's management have been absolutely rubbish. I don't mind that the main event isn't great as the undercard is awesome, especially with the inclusion of Taylor, but I want to see Lee go places, he'll go nowhere fighting bums like this guy. He still has a lot to learn and he will learn very little schooling 38 year old LMW's. Lee needs a new direction because his career is going nowhere. This was the time to take on a quality opponent.

pretty much Steve, Thiam can still punch a bit but he's lost the ability to land that punch. He won't be able to get inside of Andy, he'll just plod around on the outside and be controlled in a similar fashion to Wille Gibbs.
He won't stand up to the punishment quite as well as Gibbs did however and Lee should dispose of him by around the midway point.

I'd agree with BigEars opinion of Thiam.

anyway its a great card overall. I won't get to see it now myself, though, since Bohs qualified for the final of the Setanta Cup. Double edged sword, going to one thing means I miss the other. I'm sure it will be a cracking night though.

As Sean has already stated in his Bunce interview, his championship contest with Mike McCallum was broadcast live on RTE. It was a Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning. I had been training that Friday and the expectation of the bout was the talk of our boxing club. Also Marvin Hagler topped the bill that night in a rematch with Mustafa Hamsho, an added bonus to the night.Sadly Sean was totally outclassed by the "body snatcher", but showed tremendous heart in lasting the distance.

Mike mccallum beat kenny beatie in the final of the commonwealth games (I'm not sure of the year tho) Beattie boxed for White city which amalgamated with midland to become midland/white city funny enough... But apparently mccalum was quoted to say that Beattie was one of his toughest ever amateur foes! I never seen the fight but I'm sure some of you oul timers on here would remember it. Some say it was very close

was just re reading the bit about Lee there! Peters is confident of getting him a European shot if he wins on May 15. And says he is confident it will go ahead in Limerick? thats brilliant news. Another strong card and it could be one for the best years for Irish boxing despite all the talk within the game that trouble is ahead..
