non-Americans competed at the world level until the 30s? I guess not many. If so, what do you think was the reason? Because traveling was harder back then? Because the sport wasn´t big in other countries? Does this diminish the status and rankings of the fighters competing then?
Probably for the reasons that you suggest. Boxing became big when travelling became easier. From about the 30's onwards.
