to be fair im good friends with derry and he had a few problems outside the ring which he admited himself he let get to him it was more a mental block than anything as his skills are still there, i think if he ges his head right he can possibly clean up domestically a superfeather
I dont know how effective he would be a lightweight tbh though he wasnt a bad puncher in all fairness. I think after the Choi loss he left Warren and was out of sorts and was badly managed under Hayemaker promotions and wasnt really in the right frame of mind. He won young boxer of the year and many of the guys Matthews beat have received British title shots recently Simpson and Marsh and he was winning (unti he was stopped agaisnt Lindsay and Lawton. It tough to call you cansee why he is coming back with the buzz in Liverpool atm but it will either be a complete disaster or he will be vindicated by his performances hes young enough at 26
well to be fair, if you are actually good friends then you're probably in contact with him so can you ask him if he is coming back
I am sure that Derry used to get drawn into a few spirited debates and a few people took advantage of that...:yep I hope that Derry makes the right decision...:yep
i think Fair play to him for having another go !! Even if you loose, its still a good sport to be part of...... Fair play to the lad
I like Mathews, people forget he was winning the fight with Lindsay before that KO, which looking how Lindsay has done now isn't a bad indication. If he still feels like he's got something there and isn't risking his health I'd like to see him back and think he could do well at domestic level.
I personally coulnt really take to the guy, but hope he doesnt come back and get hurt, too many guys think they have something to offer and it turns out the wrong choice, time will tell
