Is Marquez going to be Remembered as the Guy who nearly beat Pac?

At this stage Marquez needs to earn one. Marquez, being the courageous fighter that he is, tried to secure it by doing the impossible when his move up was against none other than a returning Mayweather. He fell short so he's out of the picture till he proves otherwise. Pacquiao's move up, despite being overlooked just like Marquez was overlooked if not WORSE with people's predictions, was successful.

 

Either way I think they should fight again. Pac needs to kill all the doubt and criticism. I think the fight would look very different today now that Pac has gotten so much better as a fighter.

Marquez gets KTFO at pretty much any weight Manny's still willing to make. It would only add fuel to those who think the first two results were fair.

 

The first fight was a relatively comfortable victory for Pacquiao.

The second was closer but still a comfortable victory on my scorecard.

Where this talk comes from that Pacquiao lost both fights unofficially I don't know. They were close fights but I (a Marquez fan as much as a Pacquiao fan) have difficulty seeing how someone could score either in Marquez's favor.

I can only give Pac one round after round 1.
Marquez won both fights IMO, and is the best Mexican of his era, if the least revered.

 

Probably, unless his last couple of fights can remind people of his skill and tenacity, his career seems to fall short of the recognition it deserves due to a lack of promotion and bad decisions in other fights as well. I hope he can fight some good competition before he retires so that he can remind people he can do more than beat up Juan Diaz and further validate his place in history.

I don't want to see a rematch against an old Marquez. Pacquiao had tons of development between those two fights and he still got outboxed the second time around. For him to dominate a bloated old Marquez would skew things severely.

Yes, he will be remembered mostly for drinking his own **** for the viewing pleasure of a world wide audience.

Maybe some fighters did this years ago, but they weren't dumb enough to do it in front of the cameras.

 

He has to create his own legacy. You do not create legacy by almost and wins over one great and then beating another at the end of his career. He is overrated. Barkley beat Hearns twice and is a 3 division champion, but still he is not great either.
