Agreed. A third fight would be ill-advised for Marquez at this stage.

not that i can add tons to this thread, lots of solid input but...

1)one of the big 3 mexicans of his generation
2)one of the big 4 featherweights of his generation
3)the man hamed spent half a career avoiding
4)the man who proved, in 24 beautiful rounds, he is pac-man's equal in the ring
5)the most technically brilliant of barrera-morales-marquez triad
    6)first ballot hall of famer

To the casual fan maybe, but not to those that study and follow the sport.......
.....to those, JMM will be remembered as one tremendous fighter.....

As long as boxing historians put JMM's career in the right perpective, which I know it will be the case, I'm fine with it!:good

Thanks to video evidence and commentaries like Max Kellerman who really put that featherweight era into focus, Marquez will be remembered just fine thankyou!:deal

Funny you say that because from JMM's account, he was being congratulated by the indonesian fans telling him he was the winner as he walked back to his dressing room after that bogus decision.

Hey Blaster!, great to see you again friend.

I disagree too, obviously, though respect your opinion and can't argue with it. Different fans view such close fights differently based on what they appreciate so it's very hard to change anyone's opinion in such cases especially in a complicated sport like this. :good

As the fighter most capable of beating Pac in the lower weights. Aside from EM, Torrecampo and Singsurat. Third fight will only smear his most noted claim to fame.

Marquez will be remebered behind Barrera and Morales in Mexican boxing history...although I believe a lot of people underrate him severely.
In his bouts against Pacquiao - his first bout will be remembered for him coming back from 3 knockdowns in the first round to secure a well deserved draw. And for the second bout...I had Marquez winning by 1 round, although it was a very close bout. If Marquez had been given that decision...Marquez's and Pacquiao's careers could have taken very different paths!

the guy who unofficially beat pac twice? nah. once i agree, but twice is pushing it. I still give pac their first fight, and marquez for the second. different fans have their own views though.

all else aside, he will be remembered as a guy who gives pac a hell of a fight. and yeah a guy who beat pac once.

    additional:

Juan Manuel Marquez will be remembered as a pound-for-pound boxer, one of the best counter-punchers ever. also one of the best fighter to come out of Mexico.

Guys please. MORALES is THE guy who beat pac.
Marquez is the one who almost did.

He's like Clottey, "never lost without controversy or complaint".

Personally, I will remember him as the Technician who laid out the blueprint to beat Pacquiao. A blueprint that Morales executed with perfection.
