Keep in mind Martinez only had 4-5 weeks to train for the PW fight, didn't have a full camp.

He really did test Kelly's resolve in there towards the end of the fight. I don't know why, but I kept thinking that Kelly was just on the verge of being stopped due to accumulation late in the fight.

Williams is going to have a hell of a fight on his hands if there is a Martinez rematch. That's not overrating Maravilla, that just means Sergio matches up competitively with both guys (Pavlik and Williams).

I'm not going to say he's a liar but he did look tired and forced to take a few rounds off only to take it out in the 9th. More proof to this is how he could have finished Pavlik from round 9 to 12 but didn't because he was clearly gassed and he knew Pavlik was ready to be stopped if more flurries were coming but had to save for late rounds. Even in the 12th you can easily see that he's exhausted.

Martinez is obviously talking smack, but I love it

This is actually good buildup for the rematch.

It didn't look like he was dumping rounds to me. He might have been resting a bit, but tactically he was having problems with Pavlik. Sergio might want to watch the tape.

He won the biggest fight of his life & now he's just having a little fun & talking a little trash.

    Good for him!

If Pavlik got a beef, then just accept that rematch.

The stuff about his trainer saying this and that was pure bull****. In between the rounds Martinez claims he gave away his trainer was very animated and telling to double up on the jab, et.

Every one talks about the big ninth, but I thought the momentum began to sing back in the 8th. Pavlik was coming off a knockdown, and three good rounds, and he could must NOTHING in the 8th Martinez slightly changed his timing and which hand he was leading with and laid the groundwork for taking over the fight, much like Pavlik laid the ground work for his middle round surge in the 4th (though he lost that round). You could tell at the end of the 8th Pavlik was frustrated that he wasn't touching Martinez as much as he wanted and when Sergior came out really swinging in the 9th, it was like air being let out of a balloon. Pavlik was done.

That could be part of it. :yep

I don't know, though. Even his showboating (when he spins his back arm while shoulder-feinting with his lead) doesn't really seem like him being a dick, unlike when some other boxers do the exact same thing...just interacting with and feeding off the energy of the crowd. He's just an unabashedly self-assured guy who likes to have fun.

If that goofy looking Asian boxer exuded natural confidence and charisma from within, no matter how bad his English, he'd win some people over I'm sure.
