The difference is Whittaker set up his defense for offense, and Floyd sets up his defense for more defense.

Whitaker had a more dynamic defense. He could make you miss easier. Floyd has a somewhat predictable defense but he's extremely cagey so he's hard to hit clean.

Very very close. Almost nothing in it. I would tend to vote for Whitaker because I suspect he would ditch better volume offence with his more varied defence, but I do like Mayweather's "hands" approach as a prefered form of defence. Whitaker, just.

Floyd hate is strong, Floyd has never been knocked down, and only has been stunned once in his career.

I don't recall ever seeing Floyd getting beat to a pulp in the corner, sitting down on the ropes.

Sweet Pea fought past his prime and got beat by Tito, But he has faced MUCH tougher opposition than Floyd and he faced them in their prime too.

Whitaker made defense exciting. Floyd's defense is efficient. Its hard to say whose defense was better. Neither one of them get/got hit too much.

An optical illusion and only apparent in one fight I may add.

Even if his gloves were 'gigantic' as you say, it's irrelevant to his defensive style. His defense is based on angles, body movement, rhythm and agility. No size gloves would have any bearing on that. If his style was akin to Winky or Clottey, that would be different. Give credit where credit is due; Floyd is an amazing defensive fighter.

mayweather is 2nd to sweet pea, but it's a hard call.

Pernell had a sense about him, floyd just has a solid method.

    Whitaker by a margin.

Floyd is very defensive-minded and puts a great deal of effort and concentration into not getting hurt...and with his athletic gifts and intense training he's able to do that for the most part.

Whitaker, however, understood that defense isn't just about not getting hurt. To him it was about increasing his scoring margin. It was about hitting way more than you get hit.

    That's the difference.
