Boxing in your family.

None in my family, my old man was known to fight a fair bit, but not in the ring.

 

Not really hard to do when you plaster foundation all across your face to look like a ghost.

 

My dad boxed for the world bantamweight title 3 times back in the 60's

 

I was thinking more of like a Photoshop. But if she looks angelic in pictures, imagine what she'd look like in person.

 

My grandfather was a pretty damn decent amateur in the Soviet Army. I don't know if he won anything like a title, but he boxed for many years and was undefeated. 6 foot tall and 130lbs does that.

My grandpa (on my mom's side) and his brother, my great-uncle, both fought in the amateurs in Boston in the late 1930s/early 1940s. He's still a huge fan and so is my uncle, but my dad and the rest of my family could care less about the sweet science. So, I talk about it with my grandpa and uncle. Watching a tape of Sanchez/Nelson with them got me into the sport.

 

My dad was an Am. Boxer back in Cuba.

But he couldn't go the the olympics or compatitions because his family wasn't communist.

Tyson is a cousin my brother and I were amature

 

No-one in my family though a friends grandfather, Stuart Dowie, was the Airforce HW champ back in the 50's.

He was supposed to fight the army champ, some guy called Henry Cooper, but the fight was put off numerous times.

Even today big Stu jokes - Cooper can count himself lucky, I could have done a lot of damage to his hands.

Most of my cousins box or have boxed at some point. With me growing up in the midwest and no gym near me i havent boxed in competitions. My cousins would teach me when i would spend a month there a year.
Then i would do some workouts here on my own.

I do have one cousin who is really good. He has won many amateur titles and is probably going pro pretty soon. He is only 17 and looks to have some real skill.

Look for him once he turns pro. Arturo Rodriguez!!!

 

My dad never fought amateur but he had 3 pro fights between '87 and '95 (lost all 3). His biggest 'claim to fame' though was being trained by Miguel Diaz and being employed as a main sparring partner for Riddick Bowe before the second Holyfield fight. When I was little I was way more interested in Baseball.. by the time I started wanting to fight I blew my shoulder out, started playing the guitar and started getting woefully out of shape.. Now I'm just a huge fight fan.
