smith[steven] is very classy,i think warren knows class when he see's it some prospects don't need to much protection, and steven is one of them. smith on points if it comes of.

if Paul Smith beats Magee i will start to give him credit. At the moment he is the Super Middleweight champion of Liverpool and nothing more.

That's a bit harsh mate, Paul has proven he's the best in Britian bar Froch with his last 2 performances... Paul will show how good he can be against Magee and Stephen will set the game alight with a win against Simpson he really will, Stephen is one of the best kids around, I'll be honest though I'd rather of Stephen beat Lindsay first and then he'd have got more credit..:good

it just happened that the holder was from liverpool, and according to most the first genuine SMW he fought was from liverpool too. Beyond the two he fought apart from magee there weren't any clear challengers, as anderson was meant to be fighting david, quigley was meant to be fighting on the haye undercard, groves and degale would not be risked then etc. so you cant knock paul for who he has fought and beat.
And you will remember that most people had a clear dodson points win on the card as a prediction.

Ste smith is talented, and if the fight is there, the lad will take it at the drop of a hat.

:good true i knew a bit about this fight a while ago and have waited for something to break, having seen both lads fight a fair few times swifty takes this by a close ud, then people will sit up and take notice of just how much class he has, and possibly start making a few more prospects have meaningful fights:good

But would you say that the amount of British fighters garnted Commonwealth Title fights is the sole reason there is still such a belt?

If we judge the overall quality of opposition brought over to fight for the title it is obvious that either we are the only country who take it serious anymore or there is a shocking lack of quality in the Commonwealth outside of Britain. The success of fighters like Clottey, Johnson, Peter (all of whom I mentioned earlier as successful fighters who never fought for the title) shows that there is talent out there but, for whatever reasons, the best aren't being thrown in with each other.

It's time for the belt to be put to grass, I think we are all agreed on that.

Very few quality fighters from abroad bother these days as mentioned, plus we have the English title now as means of holding someone back.... inter-alphabettys as well.

As **** as they are they do sometimes serve a purpose, to get you into the top 15 and in line for a shot :deal

any decent african fighter will go to the States as soon as they show a bit of promise.

If the guy Watson was fighting on friday has the potential to be as good as Josh Clottey do you think the fight would have got made, no chance. its very rare you will find a joker in the pack.
