Mayweather got hit less. But Sweet Pea threw more punches. which is probably why Pea got hit more.

There is really nothing between em. Both 2 of my favorite fighters of all time.

I've always got the impression that Sweet Pea's defense showed better reflexes while Floyd's defense was more rooted in the technical prowess, so it's pretty much even since they're sort of different approaches to incredible defense. But I voted Pea due to the better competition he's faced.

I have to disagree, Floyd has one of the highest if not the highest connect percentage ratio in sport today. He makes you pay if you miss. He is not only defence - defence.

Whitaker and it's not close. Whitaker may have got hit more (I'm not saying he did) but that's because his output was literally four times Mayweather's most of the time. He has the much better defence inside, outside, slipping, blocking - by every measure.

it's very hard to pick as they're both ****ing brilliant. i think i'll pick sweet pea because he was faster with his movement, he can avoid more punches, while floyd blocks more, butb he's not making you hit the air as much as sweet pea did. when it comes to overall boxing ability, i think mayweather will rank higher when his career is all said and done in the p4p department.

Arguably the two best defensive fighters of all time. I personally think Pea is the best and Floyd second.

Now, it all depends on people standards. One would prefer the "hit without getting hit" legend in which Pernell was the absolute master whilst others would rather enjoy the shoulder roll tradermark of Floyd.

Purely for defence. Well we can split it. Mayweather's defence from a technical standpoint is one of the best you'll get to see. Whittaker's is better in terms of being freakish, but still reliable. So you make the call. Again, both fighters can defend magnificently well inside, Mayweather sticking to his blocking and rolling tactics (more technical), and Whitaker utilising them reflexes in close. The poster who said that Whitaker was supremely defensive on offense though has a point. I do think Whittaker has an extra dimension on Floyd but i don't know if that plays into this topic.

I'll be a nut-hugger and go for Whittaker because of the wow factor.

Im gonna say floyd just because he's more defensively minded as that's what has been drilled into him by his pops, but whitaker uses his defense as a means of maintaining his connects at a much wider margin than his opponents (i.e. winning)

Floyd's is more technically sound while Whitaker's is more unorthodox, but that's what makes his interesting.

this shyt is close and difficult simply because of how effective they are with day and night defenses.

i pick Floyd only because i think his defense is suited more for a long haul approach...while Pea was still athletic and quick as he got older he visibly was nothing what he was in his prime and it showed as did RJJ...when u get older for fighters like these two although still brilliant they were nothing like they were when they were in their primes. I think Floyd's D can carry you furhter as you get further removed from your prime...see BHOP....prime for prime RJJ still whoops BHOP....NOW...he just doesnt have that graceful speed athleticism just got natural ability to be better than the rest so easily...father time slows everyone down.

Anybody who voted for Pete is lying to themselves. No fighter, no fighter in history has fought 40 professional bouts at the level Floyd has and taken less punishment. Floyd has the greatest D anybody has laid eyes on. Better than Pete, better than Pep, better than ANYBODY.

Whitaker is much better at blocking, the way he protects himself on the inside is totlaly textbook. Mayweather is one-dimensional with his shoulder roll by comparison
