I recently had a look at a couple of the Super Six "tale of the tape" pictures, and it got me wondering... (example: http://www.lionheart-boxing.dk/images/news/Kessler_Ward_TaleoftheTapeB.jpg) I'm trying to find some kind of "official" standard to where one's supposed to measure to get those numbers, but I've been unsuccessful, and too many questions remain, like: * Is the bicep measured while relaxed? Around the middle? * Are the wrists and ankles measured on the knuckle or between the knuckle and the hand/foot? * Is the chest measured under the armpits? In the middle? Around the nipples? What? * Is the thigh measured on the top or the middle part? * Etc. Any insights would be appreciated. Some measurements are more self-evident than others, so you may skip height and weight, e.g. - and please don't guess unless it's a very educated guess. Thanks in advance!
Bicep is measured tensed, around the highest point (the peak) - they don't mean bicep really, they mean upper arm. Wrists are measured between the knuckles of your forearms; so inbetween the first knuckle on the top (with palm facing down), and the 2nd knuckle on the bottom. Chest is measured across the nipple (peaks of the pecs, really), around your back and under your armpits - they line up pretty well. Thigh is measured where it is largest. Basically the general rule is you take measurements at their peak.
In boxing im pretty sure they dont measure the bicep while tense, i thought they were measured relaxed?
Thanks so far, guys! I also think the bicep has to be measured while it's relaxed, because of the example I put on my original post. See, like Andre Ward, I'm 6'2" tall, but I am not - repeat, NOT - a top athlete, although I work out. If his biceps were 14,5" while flexed, it would mean that they're only .5" thicker than mine. So that can't be true. I'm not sure I understood the instructions for the wrist measurements, though... could somebody rephrase? - and the neck is measured at the base, right? Below the larynx?
If you look at your wrist top down (so your palm of your hand is facing downwards) you'll see on the outside edge of your arm a prutruding bone. Now if you flip your forearm over, so your palm is facing upward, again on the outside edge, right where your forearm meets your hand is another protruding bone (though not as much as the other. Now you've seen both of them, imagine a line going around your wrist, but between these two knuckles (they're not really that far apart, the distance is actually less than the width of the tape measure). that line is where they measure.
