I think Paul has a lot of good attributes, carries himself well, and is talented. I have been a supporter almost since he turned pro, and think things are finally coming good for him. will always back him :thumbsup

as regards you own career, i think you have been a revelation since you turned pro. This is a deserved opportunity that i am sure you will capitalise on. Can't wait to find out when it's happening.

Could be a very good year for the smith's!!

fair enough. but calling them by there nick names, over rating him and having a aviator pic gives the impression you know them on a personal level.

I actually really rated Paul Smith until a year ago. I felt he moved up to Super Middleweight to avoid tough fights with Macklin and Barker, and that he is not a natural at that weight. At Super Middle he is just to small to carry of his style. Hopefully I am wrong as the more British fighters at world level the better. Also when he dropped Buddy McGirt it pissed me off as I think Buddy is one of the best trainers out there.

luckily his younger brother has not done the same thing becuase he could go up to super featherweight and dominate what is a weak division domesticly. Feather is a solid division in Britain, Europe and at World level. taking the Simpson fight you gotta respect Stephen. at least we agree on him.

I will lay off from now on.

Good luck Stephen. Will be a tough fight for anyone Simpson think he would even go 12 rounds with the world champs.

Just a quick question, did you ever do much work with Buddy McGrit when he trained your brother?

if Paul Smith does rack up a clean win agaisnt Magee it will change my opinion of him btw. from there i would go straight after Steilgritz, no point defending agaisnt dangerous europeans as your not going to find a weaker champion than him and if smith can beat Magee he can beat Steilgritz.

i think there will always be debate when any one changes weight class. Based on barker's showing against the frenchman the other week, i don't think paul would have ever sweated about fighting him, and from what i know he is very good friends with macklin, so i think to make a fight between them would have been very difficult.
i believe the reason he dropped buddy was the time he was spending in america whilst his family was here, hard decision, but one you cant blame him for making.
Glad we are sorted now, only took about 20 posts!!

you gotta remember Barker took that fight at 3 weeks notice. he was a tricky opponent you would normally want a full training camp for and he looked no worse than Smith did agaisnt Bendall, Quigley and Dodson.

    it's a fair point.

i saw numerous interviews with smith saying he would fight barker, mcdermott, elcock et al in his next fight if they came off. i think the problem in the division was that the fights couldn't be made for one reason or another, he did mention something about purse bids being a problem. At the end of the day a fighter cant hang around waiting for opportunites as we all klnow it is a short career.

I always have and always will rate John Simpson. Check my post an hour ago where I said Simpson would go 12 with the champions at Featherweight, I truly believe that. and some of the best fighters in the world are there (John, Gamboa, JM Lopez, Caballerro)

Just think Smith is level above him. It will be a tough fight.
