David Haye Vs Joe Calzaghe: Could it happen?

It seems some people have never heard of Carl Thompson.

Also consider David Haye has never fought a fighter, ever with any kind of defence.

The closest thing was Mormeck, who gave Haye hell.

Calzaghe - Haye happens at cruiserweight.

The Haye-lovers are claiming Haye Ko1, Ko2 (Haye doesn't even KO fighters, he TKO's them, like Calzaghe. These early KO claims are unrealistic and these posts cannot be taken seriously.

I am saying it is 50/50, my views are balanced and meaningful.

If you cannot see this is a somewhat competetive fighter either way, then God-help you.

calzaghe would be completely dimished at anything above LHW. Haye would not want to boil to cruiser any more. None starter. Should be end of discussion now really

 

Haye is a lot stornger for a start, Calzaghe would have to spoil with constant pitterpatter punches and rely heavily on volume offensively. He won't be throwing bombs...

Calzaghe isn't stopping Haye, Haye isn't going to punch himself out to teh extent he did against Thompson again.

Calzaghe can only realistically win on points, you stance on this fight is illogically pro-Calzaghe. You are claiming this is a mismatch in Joe's favour and are begining to look a bit silly mate.

This is a 50/50 fight at best for Calzaghe if it happens late this year at cruiserweight.

 

No, and I'm amazed that this thread has had so many posts although, I haven't read anything beyond the first page and guess that this has veered off in all directions.

First of all a fight against Haye would require Calzaghe to move two weights above where he "ended" his career. He was dropped twice at 175lbs with what appeared to be quite light punches (once if like me you think there's something a bit too suspicous about the Jones "knock-down") and this may suggest that he would struggle at Crusier, nevermind Heavy, to take a punch at that weight.

Secondly, for a fight against Haye to materialise he would have to work his way into contention. That would take 2-3 fights and who would he fight to get there? I hear everyone shouting out Holyfield's name and that wouldn't surprise me at all. Beyond that? Audley? It would be a masive television success but could he beat Harrison? I'm not sure. Even if he did we are now 18 months to 2 years down the line and he is older...

think calzaghes brittle hands... think calzaghes inactivity in the ring... think calzaghes tendancy to drop his hands and then think david hayes speed at cruiserweight. this is a fight that i would not like to see... ever!!

having said that, earlier calzaghe was a harder puncher but had a tendancy to get hit a lot more... whereas the more modern calzaghe didnt get hit as much but also didnt throw nearly as hard as he used to. calzaghe would have to work really really hard to get a points win but haye also doesnt like to trade punches. this fight has many factors that would benefit both fighters and would be 50-50 at cruiserweight in my opinion but like i said, i dont ever wanna see it happen.
