Martinez is extremely elusive but he isn't as tricky as he seems to be. Due to the fact that he fights with his hands literally by his waist and he fights his opponents from a distance while always moving. His opponents are tempted head hunt the entire fight instead of going to his body or waiting to close the distance. His head is such a small target while moving all it does is leave you totally off balance and open for a counter punch which is basically what martinez does for the entire fight. Paul williams did a great job of fighting from the correct distance in the middle of his fight vs martinez & somewhat towards the end. When ever Martinez is forced to lead punch he usually gets tagged pretty easily. If not tagged it leaves him in a position that he is not accustomed to and he is on a level playing field at that point. He is also accessible when on the ropes as the target stops moving and the target grows since you are aiming at more than just this head. He is pretty solid on the inside as well but inside fighting is not his forte, he is solid in there but he can be beaten inside as well. Martinez is a good fighter but is beatable
i think martinez fights with his hands down to lure his opponent in + give em a bit of confidence to get em out of position.
thats exactly why he does it.... he runs around with his hands down so you head hunt.... you can't head hunt from across the ring... all that will do is leave you wide open for counters and off balance... you gotta fight that dude from middle range or inside.... middle range is best tho
He's definitely less technical wizard and more athletically gifted. I'll say that. Terrific athlete, kind of a wacky boxer, technically speaking.
martinez is too susceptible to getting knocked down the way he gets off balance as we saw with kelly.As much as i like martinez i think kirkland will give him a hell of a fight.
I honestly dont think there is a fighter at 154 or 160 that would be favored to beat Martinez. Kirkland i think would get outboxed. Actually how is Kirklands chin? I cant really think of him gettign rocked but Martinez definately has the power to be the first if anything.

Martinez is beatable, but he'll give anyone a great fight. He's also a terrific character for the sport I think and one that will entertain us for a good few years. I think Paul Williams will probably get the edge over him in the rematch, but we'll see.
I agree Martinez is beatable, but in his weight division is will be extremely hard to beat him. He needs to dedicate himself to the body more often, and he does throw the same combinations every time.
