Does anyone else think the stoppage in Pacquiao-Cotto was premature and wrong ?

The stoppage was perfect.

 

The ref stopped it while they were clinching but I feel it could've been stopped at anytime and especially me being a Cotto fan would say this. It was going towards Pac's direction after rnd 1 but completely one-sided past the third.

 

Cotto wasn't getting a UD in dignity. He was running like a mofo and getting caught now and then by Pac who would smack him around before he ran again.

 

A stoppage would've been justified any time after the 9th, but i agree somewhat, after letting him take all that punishment, at least let him have the small victory of finishing the fight.

 

The ref was right to stop the fight he was getting battered at that point, As a reff i would of stopped it there, it is quite obvious that Cotto was on his way out. When a boxer is not protecting himself then it gets dangerous, cotto was on the ropes and out of it.:good

 

Agree, plus he was badly swollen and cut and there was nothing in his punches so the guy had no chance at all. His corner should have stopped it earlier IMO, although it did seem a bit odd that the referee let him take a one-sided beating for so long before deciding to stop it a couple of minutes from the final bell.

The time of the stoppage was :55 into the 12th round, which means Pacman had another 2:05 to ruin the rest of Cotto's career and/or his life. If anything the ref didn't stop it soon enough.

 

The ref was waiting for Pac to land one real hard flush shot after his corner didn't throw in the towel before the 10th round, it happened in the 12th.

Theres no shame losing a fight to the best pound for pound fighter, and to be fair Cotto has been in some serious tough fights. and the punch resistance can suddenley catch up with you at anytime, was Cotto scholled or just not the same boxer anymore he seemed very slow that night with the reflexes.

 

Hmmm its hard to say. I mean to us it seems like it was no problem but Cotto was the one taking the punches and they couldnt have felt good. Personaly if i was him i would say let it go so i can finish. Besides all he had to do was run a little and initiate some clinches. But then again Cotto is not one for clinching.
