Whilst I am a fan of the Rock I think he is a little overrated due to not losing. He fought many guys past there best.

I think Johnson in his prime had the skills to hold off Marciano for 15 rounds to win a decision.

I don't see any way Johnson could win this fight. Eventually he would get chin checked by Marciano and KOed.

He went the distance with Nino Valdes too,and Rocky didn't floor him either.

Do you think Johnson's chin was so vulnerable then?
After Choynsky stopped a still developnig Johnson in 1901, Johnson went another 14 years before being stopped after 26rds when he was 37.

Here is a picture of the Marciano-Simmons fight. As you can see, Marciano is cut over his left eye, but it does not look to be bad enough to be in danger of hte fight being stopped.

Looks a little like the Walcott face, brain damage indeed. Rocky was never in danger of a fight being stopped on cuts, The elbow=nose incident was bad but Rocky pulled it out...his group of opponents are highly underrated and I am not sure too many of the ATG's could have fought this group without a loss-easier said than done.

I love a lot of fighters but Rocky was a freak of them all= 5"11 and short-armed but he was awkward and had ferocious power in a 6-inch punch but the thing I love the best about him was the GIANT that lived within him.

Rocky break Johnson down at the seams in a tough, grueling fight for a late stop.

I don't even think this fight would be competitive. Johnson would be completely out of his depth and outclassed.

According to both the referees ,and Rocky's own corner men, Marciano was in danger of being tkod in both the Charles and Simmons fights.
I am not trying to denigrate him at all, just going by what I have read and also seen, [the Charles fight].
As to Simmons being in danger of sustaining brain damage, I think that is a little over the top.Marciano was a real banger and he ruined a lot of fighters, who were diminished after he was through with them.Walcott,Charles,Lastarza,Cockell , I don't underestimate him at all.

    Hey guys, nice comments

A lot of good answers here

Personally I think Rock would have been totally outclassed by Johnson. I don't see Rocky as being skillfully superior enough defeat Jack.

Rocky's strength was his stamina, heart, and power, which I think are all negated by Johnsons skills as a boxer.

    SuzieQ,

I was a member of the IBRO for a few years and still correspond with quite a few members who rarely post on the web. I passed on membership recently since my time for re-search is less. I got married took a promotion at work, and purchased a new home. I digress.

I count 24 Jack Johnson fights prior to being Ko'd by Choynski, so the green card is not the best one to play here. Johnson wasn't a kid for this match either, he was 23. Also the fight took place in his home town.

Where did you read Johnson was 168 pounds? This seems off as the photo has him looking thicker and heavier than Choynski. Johnson best weight seems to range from 185-210.

I can see Johnson winning most of the early rounds, but Rocky's work on the inside starts adding up and he keeps throwing bombs. By the mid rounds, he goes a gear up and Johnson has to resort more and more to clinching. During the 9th, Johnson can't keep him off him, and is baffled by an opponent throwing combinations instead of falling into a clinch after each punch.... Marciano stops him late.
