really it could go either way. some Box rec junkies are historian eithier professionally pr as a hobby when it comes to boxing and not all Gym rats know their ****. it just depends on the person.

    C) Not enough information.

Neither description in and of itself makes anyone particularly qualified to speak on the subject.

    Again, neither description is enough.

It would come down to who's seen more footage of the two, who has a higher IQ, who's able to achieve an objective frame of mind (ie no nuthuggers for either, even if they're brilliant and own complete career DVD sets of both).

I guess the ideal "expert" would be someone who meets all the above criteria, and has done a lot of online research on the sport in general (including a fair amount of BR usage), and has some experience with at least sparring or rudimentary boxing workouts to have at least some firsthand impression of what the more skilled athletes are experiencing.

Knowledge of boxing and the capacity to break down advantages in boxing are not favorable to either of these kinds. To have such perception and be said kind is to be the exception not the rule.

Kinda like how Enzo Ferrari and Chevy Chevrolet are both vehicles but the latter wouldn't know what 200mph means.

It depends if your talking about history and who beat who, and whats so and so record obviously the Addict, when it comes to what a fighter needs to do in training or what punches to throw to off set his opponent then most likely the Gym Rat. Ive known a few fighters that are big boxing fanatics, and i know many others who know the whole history and can tell you about the old timers and they have never been to Trained or laced up a glove in their life.

Well, this isn't to say that I necessarily agree with the majority of either ones' opinions, but men like Emanuel Steward and Teddy Atlas are in a pretty good position to claim expertise, having been involved in the sport for much of their lives but not taken much of the cephalic trauma that renders retired fighters somewhat cognitively useless.

I'll trust Steward's opinion before I trust that of a big dope (a big dope whose professional accomplishments I have utmost respect for, mind you) in Lennox Lewis - or of an entirely non-athletic nerd like Max Kellerman (though I do incidentally agree with Kellerman quite a bit...but my paltry few rounds of sparring experience probably dwarf or totally engulf his).

Gym Rat...someone who has been in a boxing gym for years should generally know more.

All things being equal, at a certain point I think the gym rat would have to have the better understanding.

At a certain point meaning, fulfilling the basic requirements of both. For example, thru boxrec one can have the hard facts, shall we say the fighting histories of boxers past and present, and a rough gauge of what a fighter's style is, whether he's a slugger, boxer, or a plain loser. Imagine the additional insight a visit to a certain fighter's practice session will provide to this tsack knowledge. How the fighter reacts to certain styles, etc.

Then you have the gym rat, who basically is well-schooled in the actual fighting, how a puncher generates his power, which fighter owned who in sparring, etc. He can actually enhance this gym knowledge with a wider perspective historically and of current fighters with regular visits to boxrec.

But at a certain point, when a person has met the "minimum proficiency" in both schools of thought, the "gym rat" at heart I think will always have an edge over the "boxrec" guy.
