Jones, I can't believe this thread is even competitive, he's so much better it's not even debatable.

Let's think, Jones is faster, much more powerful, more accurate, more active, has better/faster footwork, has more offensive variety, better timing, better reflexes, better ring general. Jones is like Mayweather but better and with an offence to match his defence.

    It's no contest.

I can see Floyd being able to fight to the age Jones is and still being at the top, not embarassing himself like Roy, which i think if asked this question in ten years will play a big part in people's choices.

Jones is so more naturally talented and gifted that you really have to understand Mayweather where Jones left off. The lead left hook, the back pedalling and the side to side movement along the ropes, the sneaky flashy right counter. Man, so many moves that Mayweather executes and is taken from Jones... But the shoulder roll and the defense is taken from Toney and the Michigan school.

I'd pick Jones prime he was knocking guys the f*** out! Making them look silly in the process.....his defense in itself wasn't nothing to marvel at but his cat like reflexes were....Not to mention how he used to put combinations together!

Mayweather is a complete boxer I mean he does everything exceptionally well but I think his brittle hands stop him from showing the offense that matches his defense, certainly in recent years!

I'd pick May to have a longer career and not get KTFO during his twillight years

Prime for prime no. PBF could end up having the better overall career though because of his style.

    Jones Jr.

If Roy retired after Ruiz we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I have to go with floyd because jones depended pretty much totally on his natural abilities, namely speed. Floyd, IMO, is very good at sticking to the game plan and can win on fundamentals..........although I will admit my op8inion is biased, because as a longtime hopkins fan, I cant stand jones

    Hmmm.

In answer to this thread, I wrote a lengthy response on the previous page:

But to be honest, this post says what I wanted to far more concisely:

Roy was simply phenomenal. But when his reflexes started to go,it became really disheartening to see just how much he lacked in total skill. If he couldn't move fast enough anymore, people tagged him and put him down. Floyd is almost as athletic but has so much talent and fundamentals down that I had to vote for him. He's still sharp but even if that went a little bit his skills will balance it out.RJJ just didn't have that to fall back on.

I am a big fan of both but I'm going for Jones. Look at his prime he was special and made his opponents look foolish while making what he did look so easy. He really relied on reflexes and that costed him as he aged while Mayweather relies on defense and cautious fighting which helped him last longer. Both I'm a fan of but Jones is better. It's a shame where young kids see him now as shot and weren't alive during his prime. I didn't follow boxing until maybe around the first Tarver fight but I was alive for his prime which is something I appreciate.
