Americans, how do you think boxing can return to some of the glory days over there?

No, I don't think it will make it worse. Yes, more Mexicans mean more Mexican stars in America. But it also means more money for the sport and more television coverage. Will it be tough for other, non-Mexican fighters to get deals. I don't think so...somebody has to fight on the undercard.

 

Network television and fights in real cities. Sports don't do well when you limit your available audience, they do well when as many people can see it as is humanly possible.

 

Are all the other big sports on normal television as well or are they PPV too? If they are not then it is easy to see how boxing has lost its connection with the general public.

 

More young, talented American fighters with winning personalities, less influence by networks and sanctioning bodies, and title fights on free television. I didn't get into boxing until my folks got cable TV, because without HBO it's practically impossible to be a boxing fan - there's something very wrong with that....

 

Floyd Mayweather has a winning personality as well as everything else and he is hated by some of his fellow countrymen on here.

 

The biggest sports in America are football, basketball, baseball, auto racing and hockey. All of them are on network television and basic cable. All of them stage events inside the downtown area of major cities, in the case of baseball, basketball and hockey, or they are staged within a major metropolitan area, in the case of football and auto racing. Simply put the sports are made accessible to fans, and therefore the fans show up.

 

If Floyd Mayweather's personality is your idea of a winning personality...God bless you. Personaly, I think he's one of the most arrogant, egotistical people on the planet. Now, he might deserve to be...But so do many other athletes that dominate their respective sports like Lebron James, Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods. But those guys aren't anythink like Floyd...at least not in public.

So it seems to be from the comments that it must start by not costing so much money to be a fan and that way ordinary people can see it. Also, another thing i noticed was that when their is a big fight in American, the ticket prices to see it live are absaloutely crazy.

 

No, Floyd Mayweather is extremely talented but does NOT have a winning personality. Ray Leonard did.

 

He's a winner isn't he? He has no problem letting people know he wins, the way he does it might be all wrong and you may consider him an arrogant ******* based on that but he is fundamentaly about 2 things, winning and money.

 

You know I never really thought about this but you're right - a big problem with the sport is the inacessibility to the live event. Bix fights are almost exclusively in Vegas. The Texas Stadium is a step in the right direction. Confining the sport's biggest fights to Nevada is truly detrimental.

 

Exactly. If you make it too expensive to be a fan people will pass. It doesn't help that American promoters, I am looking at you GBP, sell their tickets to brokers instead of fans.

 

I think you're confusing success with personality. Floyd does not have a winning personality. He's a jerk. And he takes pride in it. A winning personality is someone who is applealing...Tiger woods (before he started ****ing every hoe he could get his hands on), Peyton Manning, Lebron James, et all.
