Ya, I kinda agree. May is doing the right thing, but for the wrong reasons. I don't think he gives a flying **** about the integrity of the sport
All these belts should be ignored. The only way they will actually disappear is if all fighters stop paying the sanctioning fees. If the only belt that existed was that of the Eastsideboxing Championship... Boxing would be 1,000,000 times better for it.
can't blame him. Would you give the WBA a cool million bucks for getting hit in the ring? I like what Floyd is doing, he's getting rid of belts which are obviously used as a bargaining chip in negotiations. In Boxing, we'll see fights that people want to see instead of mandatory fights that people DON'T want to watch. This is the future of boxing. It will make a demand of fights that people want to see, not what a useless boxing organization wants to see. Say goodbye to the tradition of the WBC and other boxing organizations.
They should award a Chastity Belt for this fight. Will Floyd get to keep his "0" virginity or will Mosely somehow pop his cherry.
Lets take your scenario and apply it to the SMW division though any division will do. Bute, Froch, Kessler, Ward, AA, Dirrell, Green. One belt, lets say Bute holds it. Fighters fight X2 per year. Now if deals can't be struck to get these guys to fight each other (TY super 6) that means they line up for a shot one at a time. For any one fighter it could be 2-3 years before they earn a shot (Champ loses, has rematch clause, fights the same fighter twice in one year). Also what if a champion from another weight wants to step up and fight for the title, does he automatically earn the right even though others have been waiting? At least with 3 belts you can build a battle of champions, unification, that adds to the sport in my opinion. Anymore than 3 and you have a problem. If the WBO never existed Calzaghe would have been forced over to America long before he did so in his scenario it did more damage than good.
