Been on and off since Benn vs Mcclellan. Got bored to tears and put off the sport by years of Nick Skelton. The Calzaghe vs Lacy fight re-awakened my love of boxing and then when he retired to pursue his coke habit I went to see my first live fight, Froch vs Pascal !! I'm more excited about tomorrow nights fight than I have been about any inn the last 12 months. I really can't wait :happy
for me as an egiht/nine year old eubank was great fun to watch, eubank v watson great match up loved it just sorry about the out come
You old fart... I was a kid when my Aunty let me stay up to watch Alan Minter v Vito Auntofermo when Minter won the title... I was sold on boxing, hook, line and sinker that night...:good
Bruno for me. First fight I can clearly rememebr watching was Bruno vs Chunk Gardner KO 1. I was checking boxrec today and the fight ws in June 87 when I was only 6 and a half! I cant belive that I can rememeber it so clearly and I cant believe I was into boxing so young and sitting up on a saturday night to watch it. I can rememeber my mu didnt want to watch it as she thought/knew Bruno would maul him so I watched it in my bedroom, by the time it started and I shouted on my dad and he came through it was finished! I must have watched Bruno fights before this but this is the first I rememebr.
Barry McGuigan and Hugh Russell at the Kings Hall in Belfast. My father and uncle took me and my cousin when we were kids and we just loved it. "Here we go - Here we go - Here we goooooo...." and "Barry! Barry! Barry!" chants - the smell of beer, tobacco and the electric atmosphere in that packed Kings Hall was the best induction you could have had. I remember loving watching the repeats on Saturday mornings on the BBC. The other two fighters that really stand out were Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson.
Aye, I loved Bruno too. Great boxing nights. His title win was brilliant - what an entrance and atmosphere. I can also remember when Witherspoon came over, how dissappointed I was that Bruno got beat....
You know you're an old fart when you watched other peoples "first fights" in a pub with a pint in your hand.:|:|:|:|
Mike Tyson. I remember watching the first Tyson v Bruno fight in 1989 when i was 6, thought the man was unbeatable. Ever since this fight ive been a massive Tyson fan.
i have swung back and forth for years between loving the game, and falling out of love, but i am fairly obessed right now. originally i loved watching benn. then naz. The usual route. As a kid i loved watching boxing, but not following anyone in particular. It is so weird this thrread has been made, as i was thinking about doing a similar one on my way home from work. I lost my way for a while, but the commonwealths 2002 started it again for me. boxing, i ****ING LOVE IT!
Tony Sibson from my town and out of our local club Belgrave ABC. Hero status at the time (me 9 or so).
1st fight i can remember watching was benn vs mclellan in 1995 (i was 6!) after that naz and lennox really got me hooked... naz vs kelley and lewis vs golota stand out for me. then came the hatton/calzaghe era which was great, however as i got older I turned into an actual boxing fan and didn't only watch fights involving englishmen. de la hoya/mosley, winky, trinidad, roy jones, james toney, MAB, Morales, and more recently pac/cotto/floyd and margarito
