Martin Concepcion vs. Kevin Hammond - rematch

Round 1

They trade leather early and then settle into more of a boxing pattern. Hammond pressing forth and raining heavy blows on Concepcion, who is able to turn and move away before taking too much punishment but not able to get any respect from Hammond with his counter attempts. Concepcion is hurt by a sequence that includes a big left hook to the cheek.

Round 2

Hammond lunges at Concepcion (back in a corner) with a right hand but eats one on the way in and staggers. They are drawn into a brief firefight with Concepcion quickly tattooing Hammond before the cobwebs can clear. They do, and Hammond goes back to work - throwing hard, not just headhunting but certainly trying to take advantage of every moment Concepcion's hands expose his face. Concepcion is able to avoid Hammond's attacks and land his own but does not make any further attempts to finish him.

Round 3

Concepcion fires quick bursts and tries to skip out of the way of counters. It works for the first thirty seconds or so with the free-swinging Hammond slicing air, but eventually a right hand sends Concepcion back and he is reluctant to resume engaging with an invigorated Hammond. Hammond drives a triplet of power shots home and forces Concepcion down briefly. Hammond puts his head into Concepcion's chest and swings his fists like pendulums into Concepcion's body on either side. Concepcion for his part keeps smashing the head of the defense-eschewing Hammond but Hammond is undeterred. Hammond very focused on Concepcion's body, perhaps looking to set up the knockout in another round or two if Concepcion doesn't fully recover.

10-8 Hammond, and 29-27 through three.

 

Round 4

Hammond slowed by rapid overhand rights and uppercuts from Concepcion. Hammond swivels both ways with corkscrew punches with either arm. They lean into each other and Hammond commits to the body, while Concepcion scrapes his right glove against the side of Hammond's face. They battle inside to the bell.

10-9 Concepcion

2 rounds apiece, but on points it's 38-37 Hammond.

 

Round 5

A slow start, with Concepcion jabbing and changing circling directions every few paces. Hammond again rocked by a right, a hook, by one of everything. Concepcion eases off the gas pedal for just a moment and Hammond is right back to his stance, and stalking Concepcion. Lead hooks helping slow down Hammond for the fleeing Concepcion. Concepcion chances coming in and letting his hands go as Hammond idles against the ropes.

Round 7

Hammond reaching, pushing his punches, but missing as Concepcion simply glides away and dips down when the ropes touch his back. Both men appear tired, Concepcion able to find a little more accuracy but not hurting Hammond.

They skipped 8 and 9! atsch

The tenth was good stuff though. A dramatic effort from Hammond and he got some good shots in despite being exhausted (of course eating quite a bit of leather himself in the process).

futon - it's all over. Whatever urgent program warranted clipping fights, it's surely on now. Probably the world series of doily knitting or some such ***gotry.
