True, 116-112 sounds clear as day but in certain fights its nothing, as you say 2 close rounds and Froch keeps the belt - There were more than 1 or 2 close rounds in this fight imo. I had a tenna bet with my mate (i had Kessler) and when the bell went at the end I was not that confident tbh, it was only when Sauerland jumped all over Kessler and started pissing his pants that we thought he surely must have won it, I then turned to my buddy and said cough it up. Quite a funny moment actually, it was only a tenna but my mates a stingy ****er and he was well gutted, at the bell we were like - hmmm touch and go this could swing either way........ erm the Danes seem pretty confident though.
I'd have preferred the commentators to score the rounds as they really saw it, not second-guessing what the actual judges might do. "well, I thought Froch nicked that one but I've given it to Kessler because we're in Denmark..." etc Tha was just annoying.
The worst was giving Froch round because he was stealing them in the last 45 seconds, despite him being battered all over the place for the first 2:15. There better be some punch stats for this. Kessler would have won this in Nottingham also, maybe even clearer there.
I thought Dirrell beat Froch comfortably and I'm not a fan of Froch, but I thought Froch won by 1 round against Kessler. Both of them looked sloppy and below elite level, I thought this was gonna be a great fight but Kessler truly has slipped.
Judging by what Duke was saying re score, he had it to Kessler 115-113 (which tallies with the Italian judge). He scored the first round even, which judges rarely do, but that apart his scoring was not far off the mark for me. It was a dramatic fight. Froch thought he had won, and he probably had a point about how it might have been had it been in Nottingham. Certainly, the crowd inspired Kessler and probably gave him an advantage and swayed the judges when it mattered. Those of you who are saying 9-3 Kessler or that Roger Tillerman (idiot that he is) was on the money don't know what you are watching. Two or three rounds is about right, which is how the commentators had it. As for Darren Barker in the studio, he is entirely entitled to his opinion even if other disagree. And Andy Kerr seems a good lad, who certainly does not merit abuse. One other point, as the commentators were not interviewing (ie relying on Peter Schmeichel's questions) I think it is a fair assumption that the commentary was done off-tube. In other words, all they could see was the TV pictures. All things consdiered, I enjoyed what I saw and most of what I heard.
I agree with all of that. Kessler won by 2 or 3 rounds. Commentary was good - I think Rawling is the best British commentator out there and McKenzie works well alongside him. The crucial thing that the commentators were absolutely spot on about from the outset was that Froch needs to force Kessler on the backfoot to take away his jab.
To be fair though my 5 year old nephew could have seen that Froch needed to take Kesslers jab and try and push him back....;O) As I said at the top of the thread iffy commentary doesn't usually bother me but that was pretty poor last night at ringside. Duke esp. needs to know when "less is more".
It was a close fight with certain rounds that were up for interpretation but in 95% of peoples eyes Kessler won at least 7 rounds
Froch looked to have better moments when he started gunslinging. He seemed to be able to draw Kessler into a tear up a few times that negated Kesslers jab/ boxing.
Very close to me. A lot of Kesslers hots were hitting gloves or fresh air. Froch looked effective when he bobbed and weaved and the lurched forward with two/three punch combos but he just didn't do it enough. Fair result but was closer than the cards suggest. I was expecting a majority or split decision to kessler but wasn't surprised to see a clear UD considering Tilleman was judging
Totally disagree. He conveys the excitement and reads the fight. And, unlike some on other channels, he is able to vary his interpretations and the contest deveops. As for your nephew, he seems a shrewd kid. My daughter agrees (aged four).
