His foes David Haye and Adamek have moved up and have been very successful at HW. Banks is doing well as well so far and Mormeck has moved up as well and won his tune up fight. The HW division doesnt look so scary, there are no big punchers exept for the Klitschkos and most HWs are out of shape. old or slow. Cunningham at 6'3 and with 82" reach (1 inch longer than Klitschko) could weight 215-220 and be very successful and make some money. Dont know what he is waiting for. He could get his rematch with Adamek there. What do you think?
He should strenghened his legs. Add at least 10 pounds of muscles strictly to the legs. Otherwise he will be on the floor everytime with a good puncher.
haye and adamek have fanbases and that helps bring money and tv to the table. cunningham would have a harder route and be harder to matchmake for , but i agree with the premise of him moving to heavy, he is ripped at 200lb albeit i have read him say he makes the weight no problem , has fast hands /good skills and has no real prospects money wise at cruiser requiring his opponent to be a star in order to get a payday, unable to generate money himself. at heavy he would get more name recognition and quickly if he did well, money to follow. but the fact that he carries little ko power at heavy will hurt his marketabilty, albeit if he shines to me that should not matter , but to the tv men it does.
Cunningham is kind of stuck. He's far too big to make LHW and even though his team has talked about it, I don't think it would be good for him to fight at heavyweight. He lacks the power and the chin at HW to be competitive at a high level. I'd stay at cruiserweight and now that he's a promotional free agent....stay active!!!
There is no way in hell Cunningham makes LHW. He'd have to burn off much needed muscle(and he's shredded as is and not bulky so it would eliminate much of the advantage of moving down) He is best suited for cruiser....some fighters are built just for a certain weight class or weight class range. Cunningham might learn the same hard lesson that Bob Foster learned when he tried his hand against heavyweights back in the day. Foster was an ATG lightheavy who didn't carry his greatness up to heavy(plus the 70's was arguably the worst era to make a move up like that) No one of that era's calibre save for the Klitschkos exists today but heavies are much bigger nowadays. He could try it but his body would need todays nutritional and training preparation to have any success. And he would have to fight technically sound. His chin might get too much flack because he was floored afew times against Adamek whereas Banks didn't make it past the 7th round. So far Banks is enjoying limited success at heavy(he made Walker look like he was playing Twister)
Cunningham's a small CW with little power and a dodgy chin. He would still make the old CW limit of 190 easily.
The guy weighs in nowhere near the 200lb weight limit. 195lb against Braithwaite 197lb against Adamek 192 3/4lb against Huck Yes, a relatively small CW, I'm not sure that's really disputable.
You dont have to look like Jean Marc Mormeck to be considered a CW. The guy is really chizzeled and has a lot of muscles. Cunningham is a natural CW.
