Eubank: Calzaghe hit like he had bricks in his gloves

Joe has always had shitty hands, even back before he turned pro. This fact makes his achievements all the more admirable.

 

Speed and volume though. Malignaggi was never a volume guy that I have seen.

 

Yep his brittle hands made him lose power but he did indeed have 1 punch KO power earlier on.

if some of you dumb****s on here actually watched calzaghe when he was alot younger then you would of known he was more of a puncher back then than he was later in his career. some of you yanks on here do realise that calzaghe was not in his prime when he beat the likes of lacy.

 

He had good power when he was younger, however he wasn't nearly as intelligent as he became during the latter part of his career. He manged to successfully change strategies half way through his fights with Hopkins and Kessler, I don't know if he would have been able to do that earlier on in his career.

 

Guys, he stopped Peter Manfredo. Of course he had power.

He doesn't have one clean stoppage his whole career. He had reasonable power when younger but was always an accumulation puncher. He lost a bit of weight on his punches as his hands deteriorated but gained a lot of ring intelligence. He also had to sacrifice power for speed due to not being explosive. There were occasions later in his career where he did mix up heavier shots, but it didn't fit in to his tactics to slow down and load up more.

 

Very wrong.

 

Calzaghe in his earlier days could hit hard, obviously when his hands started to worsen he adapted and threw less hard digs. Still when he wanted to bop, he could bop!

 

don't worry, the guy obviously hasn't watched calzaghe until he fought lacy. i bet he's american.

That can be argued to a degree. Post-Lacy was his prime. I say this because he was mentally at his best, and still carried his amazing stamina. In that stage of his career he could make adjustments and was more clever, which led to him beating Kessler and Hopkins.
