I'd like to say Nigel Benn but i was already into boxing due to the same man who was the big star for kids my age ( 33 ). Like it or not Frank Bruno was huge in the early ,mid 80's and transcended the sport around that time getting loads of kids into the sport.
De La Hoya , his style simple as that , in his prime he was the most watched boxer for a reason , he came forward had tremendous skills , feared nobody , looked to finish every fight he could , look through his fight reel : JCC twice , Quartey , Trinidad , Sweet Pea , Mosley twice , Vargas , Mayorga there all great fights !!!!! After Oscar died down i kind of fell out of love with boxing until Hatton came along , then again it was just his style that made my hairs on the back of my neck stand up , not as skill full as DLH but just all out pressure , relentless forward pressure , i dont know what it is about the walk forward style i suppose its like if you go for a particular type of bird , and you have a particular type of style of fighter that just makes you sit up and take interest its a pretty similar thing except i wouldnt want to shag Oscar or Ricky Anyway i was all set to make Valero my new #1 and bang !!!!!!! **** me , BTW did anybody actually watch that video of his dead body in his cell posted on here ???? , its completley ****ed up my mind i wish id have never of watched the ****in thing now !!!!
Being only 17 i hope you excuse maybe the cliche views i have for many youngsters getting into boxing. Ricky Hatton was the first boxer to really get me into boxing, and the first fight of his i really followed was the Floyd Mayweather fight, though i rememeber earlier that year my brother giving me a copy of Vasquez v Marquez I. If you need any introduction to the beautiful sport look no further than that fight.
That surprises me, I'd have thought that Katsidis would be massive in Australia, he's got the attitude
Not a boxer, but my dad got me into the sport. He loved his boxing. I used to pick his boxing news up for him every saturday morning as a kid, and read it on my way home. He had them all in a cupboard, goin right back to the late 60's. My first real memory of staying up to watch a fight with me Dad was the Minter-Hagler fight in 1980,I'd of been 9 then. I remember havin to fight back the tears after that fight, me Dad was gutted. He was convinced Minter had enough to beat Hagler (prob using Antuerfermo as a gauge:roll: but his predictions were very rarely wrong and cost me quite a few bevies over the years:yep) Then there was Leonard-Hearns and I was hooked:love Still got the original tape of that fight, world of sport, Dickie Davis, the lot. That was when i first went down the gym off the back of that fight, windin right hands up and tryin to throw a bolo punch:roll: Then later the Mcguigan-Pedroza was a massive fight for me,****in loved the Mcguigan nights. Watched that fight in some dirty sluts house with Widdy and some mates.(watched it over again with me Dad the day after)Could of got laid that night, the little slags were well hormoned up:yep But give me a fight anyday over a hamfisted wank, a smelly finger and a blowjob where she actually does blow:-( The 80's were ace- The boxing was ****in quality too. Saturdays fight reminded me why I love boxing so much. Really looking forward to this saturdays big one. Have a feeling it's going to be a classic. Would love to be watching it with me Dad, rip mate.
T sick for me it was Roy Jones. My old man showed me him as a wee lad and it blew my mind! He was a boyhood hero, and at his peak is nigh on unbeatable at 3 weights (well untouchable really, although there are a few key middles and light heavys I'd definitely favour over him, but not many) He's shot to **** now, but his prime happened and he will be ranked accordingly because of it. I currently have him at no.39 on my alltime list.
