Hatton. Both fights have one great fighter on their resume, Tszyu and Mosley, but Hatton was the undisputed champ at 140. Cotto was a titleholder at two weights, but was never the man, and that has to count for something.
They both had great careers. I think Cotto's is a bit more accomplished. Hatton can hold his head high. His legacy is solid.
Hatton easily if you are talking money earned but Cotto has a better highlight reel and legacy even at this stage. I always favour legacy over earnings every single time.
both 2 weight world champions - however hatton was the king of 140, cotto was never king of a division and hatton had the opportunity to fight for the p4p title twice - so hatton has had the better career and will be remembered more than cotto, even though cotto is better cotto becoming a 3 weight champ by beating foreman may narrow the gap somewhat though
I guess career-wise, they're fairly even. They fought most of the same fighters with similar success. But if you asked me who I would pick as my fighter if he went up against a truly elite opponent, I'd go with Cotto, without a doubt. When you peruse their records, you really see how far beyond everyone else Pacquiao and Mayweather are.
Cotto's got a much better resume than Hatton. Clottey, Mosley, Judah, Quintana, Malignaggi, Branco, Torres, Corley, Bailey, N'dou. Those are all names. Who does Hatton have? Malignaggi, an old Lazcano, an old Castillo, a clinchfest with Urango, a life-and-death with Collazo (maybe that's an exaggeration), big win over Tszyu, Vince Phillips sort of? Plus matched up in their primes at 140, I think Cotto would have dominated Hatton. Don't get me wrong, I like Ricky a lot, but this is just how I feel.
