If Heans had of decided to box Hagler from the outside?

Hearns said at the last minute he decided to go to war because he fought
eventually Hagler would get to him anyway. Do you agree? How long could Hearns have kept Marvin off him If he would of boxed on the move jabbing and potshotting and holding. Could he of built a lead and then held on late for a points win?

 

no he could'nt he was forced to fight that fight, Marvin was right on top of him, he had no choice but to fight the fight he fought.

I thought this too the first time I saw the fight. But then I watched it again and saw that even when he tried to stay outside, Marvin got to him pretty good. IMO Hagler just was balls out aggressive and there was no way Hearns was going to keep away for long.

It's a shame Hagler didn't use that approach against more opponents. If he'd fought that way against Leonard and Duran he'd probably have stopped both of them.

E. Steward claims Hearns legs were shot due to a massage right before the fight started.
Plus, Tommy hurt his right hand real quick in the fight.

 

but that right hand didn't look like it was gonna do a whole lot anyway past the first. his legs did appear less than sturder but that happens to when you're getting pounded by someone like hagler

 

He already attempted to but Hagler decided to charge right at him instead of fighting his normal boxer-puncher style

 

Well I think the Hagler of April of 1985 was different than any other Hagler. he worked himself into a frenzy physically and mentally for his best performance in his career. But that would not have happened twice. Hearns in a rematch could have outboxed him or stopped Marvin on cuts, but if Hearns tried to box in the first fight I am not sure. Hagler was too pumped up and put on such a great show.

 

Hearns was fresh at 160,Hearns would have killed him in the rematch,and your legs tend to be gone when you get hit with 4 punch combo's to the dick,brilliant fight for Hagler,but it was only a 1 time fight for him he could'nt have ever duplicated that again,its a reason why he didnt give Hearns the rematch..

Yeah, beacuse Hearns broke it in the first. Hearns tried to box Hagler but wasn´t able to. Hagler was too aggressive and put too much pressure on Hearns.

 

I believe there was talk of it when Hearns was fighting Andries for the Light-heavyweight title. Hearns was hoping to become the first man to win 4 titles and he was hoping to get either Hagler or Leonard (Everyone was picking Hagler at the time-duh).

But then Hagler lost, couldn't get the rematch with Leonard that he wanted and walked away. Funny thing is after winning the middleweight title, Hagler entered the ring and Tommy tried to tempt him into a rematch.

But I think that it was one of those rare fights that didn't need a rematch. Both men showed what they were made of

 

The rematch was actually all but set. Hearns flogged Schuler and Hagler beat Mugabi on the same card to garner public interest. Hearns was actually offered bonus's to KO Schuler, the earlier the more bonus. They wanted a dramatic performance so people would buy the rematch.

Well they got their dramatic performance from Tommy, but then SRL decided he wanted to fight Hagler and Hearns was left hanging.
