[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4t1m0gJpO0&feature=related[/ame] Here is part I, you can find the rest on youtube. Honestly, this is an underrated classic. George C Scott did a tremendous job as Damato. Some of the motivational speeches he said could light a fire in the arctic forrest. "What's the difference between a hero and a coward? Their ain't no difference. Inside there exactly alike. Both scared of dying, or getting hurt. But it's what the hero does, that makes him a hero. it's what the coward doesn't do, that makes him a coward". I thought the events portrayed in the film were very accurate. There were some nice training scenes, decent boxing clips, and a very dramatic sparring season where Tyson goes rampage. Also there were some funny scenes like Cus Damato "Who ate my ice cream!!!!!!" or Don King and his constant refferal to Bill Cayton as Bill Satan There is also a great realistic scene of Teddy Atlas sticking a gun in Tyson's face and threatening his life. And who could forget, the early morning street fight with Mitch Blood Green. You really feel connected to the characters, and it slowly shows tyson's deep relationships with Damato, Jacobs, etc and how is Life turns to **** when they die and he meets up with King. I would have liked to see them paint a better picture on the relationship between tyson and Rooney. They made it appear as if Rooney was nothing but an ******* to Tyson, and Tyson despised him. All in All, great movie for a low budget. I recommend this
It's an awful movie. Cus smashing doors open in the middle of the night to give Tyson pep talks. It's creepy.
Just because something isn't a box office hit in the movie theatres doesn't mean it isn't any good. This is a very low budget movie. Think about that. I don't think its creepy. I think this showcases the tight leash Cus had on mike that kept him in control during his younger years, and also exploits the borderline insane dedication Mike had to the sport in his younger years, and the devotion he had to Cus. Cus knew he wasn't going to be living much longer, and wanted to pour into mike all the knowledge he could, while he was still around.
The only thing is that this movie was recorded in real life, so its hard to watch those actors portray the real life characters. I didnt like the movie either.
I love that movie. It reminds me of being a young kid back when Mike Tyson was my hero and couldn't be beaten in the ring, at least that's what I thought. I wish I could find it on DVD. I think it is a nice movie. HBO makes a lot of good original movies, i.e., You Don't Know Jack, Tyson, The Cherokee Kid, A Bronx Tale, etc.
I watched this movie today. What a coincidence! I loved it. One of my favorite boxing films. This, and the 1999 Rocky Marciano film are awesome. It's funny that many of the actors in this Tyson film also appeared in the Rocky Marciano movie.
Some time the low budget ones are the best. I also liked this movie. And out of the biopics about Muhammad Ali,I preferred 'The Greatest' which starred Ali himself,to the Will Smith version. The former was also a low budget one. Back to 'Tyson' I think that the actor who played the eponymous character was brilliant in his portrayal. George C. Scott was excellent as always.
I still have the VHS tape in my lofty collection. It was good but basically followed the Tyson was out of control blueprint that was spread by the media at the time. What I am looking forward to is the new Tyson movie starring Jamie Foxx, even though I know for a fact Hollywood will poison it the best way they can.
I really did not think the Marciano movie was any good. The Tyson one which I only seen 1 time in the 90's was ok if I recall. Best doc movie about a boxer has to be William Treat's Dempsey. That is a pretty underrated movie.
