Max Baer vs David Tua - who would have won?

    One very prolific and astute poster claimed that Tony "Two Ton" Galento was the Tua of his day. Galento was also short, squat, very powerfully built with a murderous punch. He even floored the great Joe Louis twice before the infuriated Brown Bomber proceeded to rip Galento's mug to shreds. Galento was one tough hombre.

    I believe the Tuaman is a cut above Galento in both ability and conditioning but the comparision is valid. Maxie Baer forced Galento to retire on his stool and Galento said Baer was the hardest puncher he ever faced. Could Baer hold off the oncoming Tua with his sledgehammer shots without possibly being kayoed himself? Would Tua feel Baer's power early like the Lennox Lewis fight and simply fight to go the distance?

    I like Baer by late stoppage in a bruising, crowd-pleasing war in the 12th round. He would be more willing to stay in the pocket and I think he could hurt Tuaman to the body. Also, Baer had the chin to hang in there with Tua. It could go either way of course but I favor Maxie Baer here.

    I think going to Tua's body is suicide you have get well inside his punch and he is built like a tank anyway, I don't really know but I favour Tua, but Max hit so hard he may discourage the Tuaman, but for me a late stoppage to Tua, Max was known for not training how he should and this is not good practice against Tua.

    What a fight this would be. I like Baer mainly for one reason. Tua´s money punch was the left hook, Baer´s the straight right. The right is shorter and would land before the left hook. I think over the course of the fight this would make the difference. Baer TKO11 Tua.

    if baer realy wanted it he could win. should win. I think baer has the class edge here. could you bet on him? For all the qualitys he had if i had been around then i dont think i could ever bet on baer during his career. not during a depresion.

    tua was actualy very good, baer lost to uzcundun and a few others within his peak around tuas level so why not tua? Tuas best day and baers worst day tua wins, but baers "A" game was another level IMO.

    So do I. I think Baer has the physical equipment to outpoint Tua, but he might well be able to pound him into a late TKO.

    Excellent body work by Chris Byrd here! He realized hitting Tua's impregnable noggin was fruitless and futile so he went to the body instead. In doing so he was able to back the stronger Tua up. Byrd was a very smart and game fighter.

    keep up the trollin.
    harder punchers couldn't do it over 12 rounds.
    with today's gloves baer's punch would not be lethal.
    with then's gloves tua's punches would make baer pee blood and have a head operation after the fight ends by a brutal tua KO.

    but Tua has a double jab, left hook, straight right, and a right uppercut.

    Tua by KO. Baer had power but he wouldn't be able to hurt Tua. Tua would be able to hurt Baer though... very badly. Tua by mid-late round KO.

    Baer ain't no Lennox Lewis and Galento ain't no David Tua!

    Byrd was super slick... Baer ain't no Chris Byrd. Baer had more power than Byrd (who didn't?), but Byrd was one of the trickiest HWs ever.

    Why would you think that Tua would be able to den't Baers chin?

    You realise that Baer arguably had the best chin of all the heavyweight champions?

    "Straight" is the last adjective I would use to describe it.

    Baer was like Foreman in that he threw wide punches, then ocasionaly threw a short straight one down the pipe when the guy in front of him expected another haymaker.

    It wasn't the most subtle ruse but apparently it fooled you.
