I think it is almost comical to pick Abraham. Arthur would unload one of his wide-slow-sloppy right hands or left hooks, and Joe would slap him 67 times, and be half away across the ring before the punch completed its circuit. Ward would have the best chance, but I doubt if he has the experience or tenacity to keep up with Calzaghe over the course of 12 rounds.
Can't see anyone beating Calzaghe except for Ward. And that's a not an easy thing to do. Calzaghe works better if his opponents actually are more offensive minded. He's a natural counterpuncher, with his flurries. If you go to a flurry fight with Calzaghe, he will hit you with a good combo counter. And that will make you stop fighting against him on even terms. If you shell, like BHop did, your only chance is that it looks like he doesn't outwork you at all. Because if that goes to the cards and he punches you on a 2x rate, you will lose. That, and Calzaghe knows how to play dirty.
There is a very small chance that AA could catch Joe rushing in with his face hanging out and land that short straight right. If that happened, the fight could be quite different from what we would expect.
Ward with good chances.. Abraham with luckers punch. Kessler cuz he knows what he goes into, Direll can maybe outspeed.. But i only c Ward taking Calzaghe..
Waiting to see how Dirrel does against Ward. I got a sneaky suspicion that Dirrell might be the goods. I don't like his personality, but the talent is there.
As follows: Potential loses: Kessler in Denmark. Ward in Oakland. The rest he would have won anyway, not taking into account freak KOs against AA and Froch.
Joe beats them all handily. Ward would do well early on, but he's a sucker for an uppercut and Joe throws them constantly. He'd get bashed up and eventually overwhelmed late. Abraham has no chance, Joe is too fast and too active. His footwork would keep him out of trouble. Dirrell would lose a dreadfully boring decisions as he back-pedalled away in a stinker. Green would just have no chance. Kessler would lose since Joe will have already figured his style out. Froch would land some good lead rights early on, but his movement would be predictable and Joe would just pepper him with the jab all night.
