How many times have you seen Yuri Foreman fight?

I've noticed a lot of people don't give Cotto much of a chance against Foreman. That makes me wonder how many times you guys have actually seen Foreman fight.

I know most people saw the Santos fight, but that was a hideous version of Santos. I think the version that beat Margarito, Zuniga, Alcine, and others would have torn Yuri a new *******.

Anyway, I watched Foreman on ESPN and Verses several times, and he is pretty ordinary. He has some slick skills and decent speed, but the guy has never impressed me. I think Cotto has a very good chance of taking this.

 

Yeah he's pretty average, that's why I think Cotto should retire if he loses to this guy.

 

Ive seen him fight 10x or more. I think his movement and boxing ability are gonna give cotto trouble. Coupled with the fact cotto is stepping up in weight and just came off another maybe career changing beatdown. I dont feel cotto recovered from the margacheato beatdown yet.

 

I wouldn't say Yuri is average.
I've seen at least 4 of his fights.

Against Tsurkan and Roman he should a crazy ability to jump in close and land some great combos - fast and hard. But then he jumps back on the outside and does more jabbing and lateral movement.
When Yuri is intent on engaging he is certainly not ordinary. My only question for him would be "why in such random spurts and not consistently?"
But I think he did a good job answering that concern in his fight with Santos. He was much more active in that fight.

 

Foreman's hands are fast and would give most fighters pause as he's unloading.
Foreman might not do that often (which is a shame), but when he does he'll outwork a guy like Cotto.

 

This is an excellent fight for us to gauge where Cotto is at in his career(though I think 154 is too big for him). Yuri is not a real KO threat and I don't know if Cotto will have a whole lot of power himself at 154; we should see a boxing match. I'm hoping Cotto pulls it out.

 

Foreman isnt easy to hit, he moves well. Very similar to hopkins in the latter part of his career.

 

I've only seen the santos fight, and he looked like a C level fighter to me.

 

Cotto is going to beat him up. A stoppage would suprise me but Cotto will win.

 

Yeah, Cotto shouldn't lose this one. Foreman has decent handspeed(which shows itself in his combos) and a good step in, but nothing he's putting out there is at an exceptional level.

I've probably seen him fight a half dozen or so times. Santos, K-9, Moore, Barrett, Roman, Tsurkan, Thompson, Soto-Karass. So that's eight. I actually think he's a bit underrated if anything. No, he's not great talent-wise, but the guy just doesn't make mistakes. He has a game plan, he sticks to it, and he executes it. He won't let himself be lured into a brawl or an inside fight if it doesn't behoove him to do so.

I think this fight is a miscalculation on Bob Arum's part. I favor Foreman, and if Foreman wins, Cotto's marketability will be gone, and he'll be stuck with a fighter that nobody really wants to see because his style is somewhat boring and Jews aren't a big driving force in boxing revenues anymore. In Arum's head it's still the 1950's when Jewish people would come out to watch boxing in droves, but those days are long gone.

 

I've noticed the bold part too. Foreman is, or at least seems to be, very level headed in the ring.

 

Ive only seen him against Santos and think Cotto will trounce him. You mean I'd have a lower opinion of him if I'd seen other fights?

 

Not a "lower opinion." Just a better feel for who he is and how he fights. He whipped Santos easy, and even knocked him down. I don't think that fight gives anybody a good read on Foreman because Santos was bloody awful that night.
