David Tua vs. Monte Barrett is now confirmed by Boxrec and other sources for June 26th in Brazil.

Monte is obviously desperate for one last good showing - or perhaps if not then retirement.

Tua will be gunning for a big KO to state his case for a belt fight.

    Should be interesting. Your thoughts?

    Pointless and meaningless fight.

Im not trying to be so negative on this fight but really, is this really the fight tua needs right now? Its been past time for these kind of fights, and no, monte at THIS point in time is not really a step up from Friday at all....

Its never a good sign your facing the right opponent when you could knock him out in the first minute of the first round and it wouldnt be that big a deal.

    just imo

No it isn't. Barrett is in free fall, Friday and Shane Cameron are both better fighters than Monte at this point.

    How so exactly?

I like Monte, but he is coming off back to back to back losses, 2 of which were knockouts and one a one round leveling.

Friday was on a decent winning streak, and had actually beaten the guy that tua had just beat as well (cameron).

This fight is not better then tuas last.... and it will show in the result.

Monte is finished and should retire, and at this stage of his career, i would expect Tua and his fans to be aiming a little higher then a shot monte barrett. Dont get me wrong man i like Tua, and i understand you gotta support your guy, but this fight is beyond meaningless.

Tua has been fighting unknowns for far too long now and Barrett might look like a decent step up on paper but in reality we all know he's not and not close. Adamek just fought Golota and Arreola in his first two fights, Haye fought Barrett, Valuev and Ruiz in his second and serious move to heavyweight. Tua continues to fight such opponents, does he really plan to step up anytime soon or is this just a quiet journey to nowhere so he can make some quick cash?

Tua has 2 fights to finish out his lowly Maori TV contract.

This fight is better than we might have expected given this.

Also Barrett has a "name" and gets Tua a little more attention.

I think the fight will be fun

At this point in Tua's career quantity is better than quality. Meaning staying active is most important so his weight can't balloon.

Does anyone have any ideas who Tua can fight if this barret guy is pointlesss because I dont see anyone of these phony contenders knocking on his door to fight him right now.....C'mon Kirk and Rayban's what choice does he have, No one of those pretenders would want to give Tua a shot at this point, especially with the way he's training right now. It's too risky!!!

    Lose lose for Tua.

I think I will take a two year break after this fight.
