not necessarily. i think an elite fighter can be defined as more, or less, than a belt and defenses. it's skills, wins, competition at the top echelon.

jimmy bivins never won a belt or made defenses but he could be considered elite, even though he never consistently beat the best

Sam Langford never won a championship, but he's pretty elite to my standards. :think

I reckon McCullough was quality, sure we've seen better fighters but his chin alone makes him elite (only kidding), still though, a quality fighter, and very successful, maybe he's hard done by getting added in here i think.

Was thinking Sharmba Mitchell too, but there were definitely some dudes who had his number, but he would still go down swinging.

Jimmy Bivins and Sam Langford are elite defo. If there's some speculation as to that about Bivins, there can;t be about Langford.

If Zab Judah ain;t elite he's gotta be in here. Even as his career dwindled i always rated a win for a fighter who beat him. If you beat Judah i rated your win is what i mean.

i was tempted to add bivins but non-elite fighters don't beat archie moore and ezzard charles

if mcgrain is gonna name sam langford as the best ever, i'm not gonna argue (especially to say he's not elite)

Yeah Judah's a good call. It's interesting that the typical type of fighter here seems to be like a Micky Ward type, plenty of heart but not cut from the finest cloth. Whereas Judah had a lot of flash.

It's good to see different styles of fighters here. Yeah Bivins is my pick of the bunch of the Murderer's Row so i'm not having his name in here, i protest!

oh i hear ya, just the way you phrased it was funny. you rarely hear someone that passionate about bivins. charly burely? yes but jimmy bivins is sort of red headed stepchild of that era. not a ton of respect
